1Sambayan Fined A Hefty Fee By National Historical Commission!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The National Historical Commission has imposed a heavy fine on 1Sambayan for violation of Republic Act 8491.

RA 8491 lays down the rules on the use of the Philippine national flag and anthem. It recognizes only ONE national anthem, “Lupang Hinirang” composed by Julian Felipe.

Many will recall that during 1Sambayan’s June 12 event in which it announced its short list of candidates for the 2022 Presidential and Vice Presidential contests, it played Ryan Cayabyab’s “O Bayan Ko” in lieu of Felipe’s “Lupang Hinirang.,”

“This is the highest form of disrespect for the country, its flag and its national anthem,” a spokesperson for the NHC told The Adobo Chronicles.

NHC, which is in charge of implementing RA 8491, did not reveal the amount of the fine, but sources say it is in the nine figures.

1Sambayan Announces Wild Card Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – From the initial six names announced on June 12 for 1Sambayan’s choices for President and Vice President candidates in 2022, four have withdrawn their names: Grace Poe, Eduardo Villanueva, Chel Diokno and Vilma Santos-Recto. That leaves Leni Robredo and Antonio Trillanes on its list.

But the game’s not over until it’s over.

The Opposition coalition announced its second short list — wild cards if you will — for their 2022 Presidential and VP choices: Kris Aquino, Mar Roxas, Maria Ressa and Angel Locsin. As of press time, none of the wild cards have accepted or rejected their “nomination.”

Leni Robredo Hurt By 1Sambayan Announcement

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Vice President Leni Robredo is deeply hurt at the June 12 announcement of 1Sambayan’s choices for opposition candidates for President and Vice President in 2022.

The opposition coalition named 6 possible candidates it will support: Robredo, Antonio Trillanes, Grace Poe, Vilma Santos, Chel Diokno and Eduardo Villanueva.

Robredo had previously said there should only be one opposition candidate in 2022, and in a recent interview, asked “if it’s not me, who?”

The Office of the Vice President told The Adobo Chronicles that the fact that 1Sambayan chose 6 means that Robredo is not their top and only choice. “That 1Sambayan also didn’t say who among the 6 would be their candidate for president and vice president means that they could eventually ask Robredo to run for re-election as VP.”

Asked about Robredo’s reaction to being put on the same level as actress Vilma Santos, the OVP replied, “No comment.”
