Adobo Chronicles Fact Check: Rappler Headline, U.S. Banning Filipinos Is Fake

A headline by Rappler reads: “U.S. Senate panel OKs ban on PH officials in De Lima case, urges dropping charges vs. Ressa.”

THE FACTS:  A U.S. Senate committee — the Foreign Relations Committee  which passed the resolution — does not, and cannot ban Philippine officials from entering the U.S.  That is a function of the Executive Branch.  It is precisely why the resolution “calls on the President of the United States to impose sanctions…” under the Magnitsky Act.

Also, a “resolution” does not have the force of law.  It is, by its very nature, only recommendatory.

So even the “dropping of all criminal charges against Rappler CEO Maria Ressa” is just wishful thinking on the part of the American Senators.  This is a decision left to the Philippines’ judicial system which the U.S. Senate has no jurisdiction over.

Latest False Asia Survey Shows VP Leni Robredo’s Approval Rating At 2.9%

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The latest False Asia poll shows that the approval ratings of the Philippines top officials have increased. Except for Vice President Leni Robredo.

The December 2019 survey shows approval ratings for President Duterte rising to 87%, Senate President Tito Sotto to 84%, and House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano to 80%.

Robredo’s rating plummeted to 58% of the 5% who disapprove of Duterte, or a net rating of 2.9% (with a margin of error of 3% plus or minus .)

Duterte To Drop His War On Drugs (WOD) In Favor Of WOW

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Vice President Leni Robredo’s still-unreleased report as ex-Drug Czar for two weeks is now moot and academic. President Rodrigo Duterte is officially dropping his war on drugs (WOD).

Malacañang has announced that in place of WOD, Duterte will make WOW the focal point of his remaining years in office.

WOW is an acronym for “War on Wrongs.” It was coined by Secretary Martin Andanar of the Presidential Communications Coordinating Office (PCOO), with the help of his Undersecretary Lorraine Badoy.

Technically, the war on drugs will still continue but so will the war against all that is wrong with the Philippines: oligarchy, monopolies, corruption, insurgency, political dynasties, environmental pollution, crime, traffic, fake news, paid trolls, the rising prices of galunggong and sili. You name it, Duterte will ago after it.

WOW will be Duterte’s lasting legacy. Not to mention his world record 87% approval rate.
