Steve Harvey: Colombian Cartel, Philippine President Duterte Haven’t Forgiven Me

ATLANTA, Georgia (The Adobo Chronicles, Atlanta Bureau) –  Television host Steve Harvey will go down in history as the guy who announced the wrong Miss Universe winner.

We’re talking of course about that prime-time moment in 2015 when Harvey announced Miss Colombia as the new Miss Universe when in fact, it was Miss Philippines who won the crown.

Fast forward to 2019….

While this year’s Miss Colombia told Harvey that the Colombian people have forgiven him for his gaffe, the host said “the Cartel hasn’t forgiven me.”

The Adobo Chronicles has just learned that in a backstage conversation between Harvey  and Miss Philippines about the same gaffe, the host told Gazini Ganados that while he thinks the Filipino people have forgiven him, President Duterte has not.

To add insult to injury, Harvey, in announcing this year’s winner of best national costume, mentioned Philippines, when in fact, the real winner was Miss Malaysia.

The Miss Universe Organization should fire either Harvey or the teleprompter.  One is enough. Two is too much.

Leah With An ‘H’ Chosen To Sing Tokyo Summer Olympics Theme Song!

TOKYO, Japan (The Adobo Chronicles, Tokyo Bureau) – Move over, Lea Salonga.  Here comes Lea with an “h,” Leah Navarro.

While Salonga may have recorded the theme song of the 2019 South East Asian Games, “We Win As One,” Navarro takes it further to the world stage.  The aging singer has been chosen to sing the 2020 Summer Olympics theme song. What’s more, the Olympic Organizing Committee (OOC) didn’t have to commission a new song.  Navarro’s 1980’s hit song “Isang Mundo, Isang Awit” has been adopted as the official theme music. (It was composed by Nonong Pedero.)

In naming Navarro as the Olympic songstress, OOC said the lyrics of  “Isang Mundo” encompass the entire universe and the song is very appropriate for the quadrennial sports competition.

The Japanese Olympic Organizing Committee recomended the song because it already contains some Japanese lyrics as may be seen here:

Navarro was earlier reported to have tweeted that the SEA Games 2019 Organizing Committee should have chosen her song — instead of Hotdog’s “Manila” as the entrance theme song of the Filipino athletes during the Opening Ceremonies.

We she got more than what she bargained for.  Mas sosi (more prestigious)!

Tens Of Thousands Of Undocumented Filipino Immigrants In U.S. Apply For Politcal Asylum

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – Encouraged by a recent Immigration  Court decision granting political asylum to a Filipino couple  who arrived in the U.S. in 2000 to go sight-seeing, tens of thousands of Filipino TNTs (Tago Ng Tago — hiding from Immigrantion authorities), have filed asylum petitions with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigrtion Services (USCIS),

The couple claimed that returning to the Phlippines will subject them to political persecution by the Duterte Administration which they are critical of.

The Adobo Chronicles visited the USCIS offices on Samsome Street in San Francsco to verify the reports.  Immigration officials confirmed that today alone, they have receivecd 66,666 applicants for political asylum by Filipinos who have pending deportation orders.

We wish the Filipinos the best of luck in their petitions.  After all, there has been a precedent.   The odds of success are great!
