MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Reelectionist Senator Nancy Binay has called for a total ban on the employment of foreign workers in the Philippines. Her proposal has outraged Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who say this will impact their own employment abroad.
But Binay is sticking to her guns.
In an exclusive interview with The Adobo Chronicles, Binay defended her proposal saying that the ban will not affect OFWs since “they’re really considered domestic, not foreign.”
Pressed to elaborate further, the Senator said, “eh di ba mga OFWs natin ay nagtratrabaho abroad bilang domestic help? So hindi sila considered foreign.” (isn’t it a fact that our OFWs work abroad as domestic help? So they’re not considered foreign.)
Ladies and gentlemen, presenting your reelectionist Senator…
Why would they not be considered foreign? Are indoneisan workers in the Philippines considered foreign? Yes, right? Strange logics here. I think it not right to ban foreign workers in the Philippines while we still strongly depend on OFW being welcome in other countries.
