Duterte Orders Closure of EDSA — For Good

D6EB950F-3EEC-4DEB-BB1B-938A435723FAMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has no patience for evironmental destruction, or nightmarish traffic.

Earlier, Duterte ordered the closure and rehabilitation of Boracay, once the country’s top tourist destination because of its white sandy beaches and pristine natural surroundings.  Now, Boracay is the poster destination for pollution and decay.  So he ordered its closure and rehabilitation.

Now, the President is fed up with the nightmarish traffic on EDSA, Metro Manila’s main thoroughfare that. No solution is in sight.  So, Duterte has ordered the permanent closure of EDSA as a way to solve, once and for all, the traffic mess, as well as prevent any more groups to stage protest rallies which aggravate the already parking lot status of the avenue.

Today, the Duterte government put up a sign (see photo), looking for buyers for the entire EDSA.  It’s a prelude to its permanent closure.

It seems Duterte’s meme of “Build, Build, Build” is slowly changing to “Close, Close, Close.”

A07F1BC7-2F0D-4238-AC41-9185AFD04A0AMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Reacting to President Rodrigo Duterte’s announcement that he wants to abolish the NFA Council, Senator Bam Aquino expressed deep concern about the presidential decision.

In an exclusive interview with The Adobo Chronicles, Aquino said the the abolition of the NFA Council will severely affect the income of the Council members.

”It is so unfair for the President to abolish the Council because it cuts down the overall take home pay of the members. The members are citizens who are trying to make ends meet in order to provide for their families.,” Aquino said.

”I urge the President to reconsider his decision. It is the right thing to do,” Aquino added.

Leni Robredo Eyes Post Vacated By Aguirre

996A0FE0-B475-4ED3-859F-31665797FE6BMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In a television interview last month, Vice President Leni Robredo said she was willing to become part again of Duterte’s Cabinet, on condition that she can still express dissenting views on national issues.

Early in the Duterte Administration, Robredo was appointed Housing Czar but later resigned her post.

When a door closes, another one opens.

So, just hours after Duterte accepted the resignation of Vitaliano Aguirre as Secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ), Robredo sent her application letter to Malacañang, expressing her deep interest in the position.

In her cover letter, Robredo highlighted the fact that she is an attorney and her unblemished record as a law-abiding citizen and public official  more than make her qualified for the top DOJ spost.

”I beg the President for his wise discretion to choose me as the next DOJ Secretary,” Robredo said, “as it will signal the country’s path to unification and political healing.”

The Adobo Chronicles reached out to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque for comment, but he said the President was asleep and has not seen Robredo’s application letter.
