MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It was just days ago when Catholic Churches across the country were urged by the bishops to toll their bells each night as a reminder of those who have been killed under the government’s war on drugs. Many believed it was the Church’s subtle way of criticizing President Rodrigo Duterte.
Now, the Catholic Church is singing a different tune — literally.
It has rescinded its order to parishes to ring their bells. Instead, George Friderick Handel’s ‘Halleluja‘ will be played each night over church sound systems in celebration of the government rescue of Marawi priest Fr. Chito Soganub.
Fr. Soganub was among those who were held hostage by the Maute rebels in their continuing siege of Marawi City.
See, the Catholic Church can be pro-Duterte if it wants to.
