Updated Anti-Film Piracy Video Debuts In Metro Manila Theaters, Features VP Leni Robredo

IMG_8124.PNGQUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Filipino theater-goers are quite familiar with the anti-film piracy video shown along with movie trailers, depicting thieves being jailed for various offenses: stealing a motorbike, stealing kisses, stealing from the government treasury, and stealing films.

Beginning this weekend, an updated version of the public service video will debut in theaters throughout Metro Manila.

The update is a direct result of Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo’s recent visit to the victims of a fire that gutted houses along NIA Road in Quezon City.  During that visit, Robredo issued a statement saying that she will be coordinating relief and rehabilitation efforts, promising residents that she would let them stay put in the fire-ravaged neighborhood.

Her statement is directly in contrast to that of Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista who said he’d rather relocate the victims to a safer neighborhood.

Many political analysts accused Robredo of dipping her fingers in a job that she had nothing to do with.  Some have said that she stole the job that really belongs to Mayor Bautista and other local and national housing agencies. (Robredo was appointed by President Duterte as housing czar but the vice president resigned her Cabinet position late last year.)

The updated video shows the vice president behind bars, accused of stealing Bautista’s job.

Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista Flies To Bicol To Help Typhoon Victims

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Vice President Leni Robredo, fresh from her vacation in the United States, visited the victims of a residential fire along NIA Road in Quezon City yesterday for a much-needed photo oppportunity.  The Office of the Vice President boasted that she had come to the fire scene directly from the airport.

At the same time, Robredo announced she will be coordinating efforts to help the fire victims and allow them to stay put in the burned neighborhood.

Her statement directly contradicts that of Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista who said  it is best to relocate victims to a safer, less accident-prone area.  Bautista also noted that the creekside neighborhood is a breeding ground for dengue and tetanus.

Reacting to Robredo’s visit and statement, Bautista asked,  “How will she be able to coordinate the housing needs of the victims when she had already resigned her cabinet position as housing czar?  And what motivated her to visit the Quezon City fire victims instead of the typhoon victims rendered homeless in her own city of Naga in the Bicol region?”

“If that’s the case, I will fly to Bicol to personally help the typhoon victims since Robredo doesn’t seem to care about them,” Bautista added.
