MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – No, it’s not what you think.  Ramos and Enrile are very much alive.  Only Marcos is dead.

For almost the entire period of martial law, Juan Ponce Enrile (now a senator), served officially as Martial Law administrator and Defense Secretary in charge of all the armed forces’ services during that time. Fidel V. Ramos, who later became President of the Philippines, was director of both the Philippine Constabulary (PC) and Philippine Integrated Police (PIP) during the Martial Law days. The two of them commanded the soldiers and police, who allegedly committed horrible human rights abuses during that regime.

So before Ramos and Enrile became adversaries of Marcos, all three were close allies.  They were, in fact, considered the triumvirate of the Martial Law regime.

When Marcos is eventually buried in the Libingan Ng mga Bayani, it is rumored that Enrile and Ramos will lead in the interment ceremonies, paying their final tribute to their former boss and fallen hero.Hence, the three will be reunited — albeit one dead and two living.

It will be truly a historic scene at Libingan Ng Mga Bayani … At Iba Pa.

Philippine Senator Leila De Lima: New ‘Frail Woman of Asia?’

IMG_6979.PNGMANILA, Philippines –   There’s ‘Pretty Woman’ (Julie Roberts). ‘Iron Lady’ (Margaret Thatcher.  Then there’s Philippine Senator Leila De Lima, ‘Frail Woman.’

The lady senator, a harsh critic of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s war on drugs, has finally admitted her relationship with her former driver, Ronnie Dayan, but denied other allegations linking her to the drug trade.

For the first time in months after Duterte said she was an immoral woman for having an affair with her married driver, De Lima broke her silence and confirmed that she had a relationship with the Dayan for “a few years.”

Asked why she fell for Dayan, De Lima said it is due to the “frailties of a woman.”

Filipina netizens immediately took to social media to denounce De Lima for perpetuating a negative stereotype of women, with some even calling her statement ‘misogynistic.’

Earlier, women’s groups came to the rescue of De Lima when a congressional committee hearing looking into the illegal drug proliferation inside the New Bilibid Prison (National Penitentiary) threatened to show her alleged sex videotapes.  The groups denounced what they called “slut-shaming.”

But now, will the same women’s groups support De Lima’s statement on women frailty?

And has the senator just earned the title “Frail Woman of Asia?”

Immigrants Who Voted For Trump Petition To Change Their Vote

IMG_6968.PNGWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Hundreds of thousands of immigrants who have become naturalized citizens and who voted for Donald Trump are now regretting their choice for president.

County elections offices across the country have reported that they have been receiving letters and petitions from groups like Latinos for Trump and Asian Americans for Trump asking that the their members be allowed to change their vote for president.

The letters and petitions started coming in immediately after Trump announced that deportations of as many of 3 million undocumented immigrants have begun.

The groups said that there is just six degrees of separation between their members and immigrants that are being targeted for deportation. “In our communities, everyone is practically related to each other,” they added.

They are lamenting the fact that there will be a lot of families that will be separated from their loved ones as a result of the deportations.

It’s not better to be sorry than late.
