Leila De Lima Quits Senate To Become First Female Pastor Of Philippines’ Catholic Church

IMG_6327.JPGMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Philippine Senator Leila De Lima is sick and tired of being accused and implicated in the illegal drug trade inside the National Bilibid Prison (National Penitentiary) during her tenure as Secretary of Justice.

“I can’t take it anymore,” she said as she formally submitted her resignation from the country’s upper legislative chamber.  “I’m sorry to disappoint the millions of Filipinos who voted for me.”

It turns out that De Lima was appointed the first female pastor of the Catholic Church in a special dispensation issued by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.

While De Lima’s appointment is valid in the Philippines, it does not have official sanction from The Vatican.

Last Sunday, hundreds of Catholics attended De Lima’s first mass in Manila where she delivered her first homily (see photo.)

Philippines: US Warships Pack Up, Seen Loading Crates Of Balikbayan Boxes

IMG_6322.PNGSUBIC, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Four US warships left this free port on Tuesday, a day before the scheduled conclusion of this year’s joint military drills between Filipino and American troops.

The maneuvers called Philippine Amphibious Landing Exercise (Phiblex 33) ended on Monday, although the drills were scheduled to run until Wednesday. The exercises involved 500 Filipino soldiers and 1,400 American troops.

It was not clear whether the early end of Phiblex 33 was a response to President Duterte’s recent assertion that the joint exercises were the last of his six-year presidency.

Mr. Duterte has also said he wants US forces out of Mindanao island so he can talk peace with Moro separatists who have not forgotten US atrocities there during the Moro wars of the early 20th century.

US Marines from the USS Bonhomme Richard and the USS Germantown were seen loading military vehicles and other equipment back to their ships on Tuesday noon. The ships were scheduled to leave later that day.

The USNS Fall River and the USS Green Bay left the port on Tuesday morning, according to the seaport department of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.

In addition to the military vehicles and equipment, the four US ships were seen being loaded with crates and crates of balikbayan boxes — those corrugated boxes containing tax-free goods brought in an out by expatriates and returning Filipinos.

In a statement issued today by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) the US ships did not violate any Philippine law because the Americans were considered balikbayans.  They have been residents of the Philippines for decades during the time when America maintained US military bases in the country.

“The Americans who were here for the military drills were considered returning citizens and as such were each entitled to the number and contents of balikbayan boxes as permitted by existing law,” BOC said.

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – The 2016 U.S. presidential contest between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republic Donald Trump has boiled down to who has the more damaging audio or video of the other candidate.

So far, the 2015 video of Donald Trump bragging to Billy Bush about kissing and groping women has had the most devastating effect on the presidential campaign, on Trump that is.

But today, Trump has revealed that he is in possession of several videos on Bill and Hillary Clinton which he plans to share with the news media in the next couple of days.

The videos reportedly show Bill and Hillary attending Donald and Melania’s wedding in 2005.  The Clintons were special guests of the Trumps.

The Clinton campaign has so far been quiet about Trump’s plan to publicly release the 2005 videos which could derail Hillary’s momentum  leading up to the November elections.
