MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Philippine Senator Leila De Lima is sick and tired of being accused and implicated in the illegal drug trade inside the National Bilibid Prison (National Penitentiary) during her tenure as Secretary of Justice.
“I can’t take it anymore,” she said as she formally submitted her resignation from the country’s upper legislative chamber. “I’m sorry to disappoint the millions of Filipinos who voted for me.”
It turns out that De Lima was appointed the first female pastor of the Catholic Church in a special dispensation issued by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.
While De Lima’s appointment is valid in the Philippines, it does not have official sanction from The Vatican.
Last Sunday, hundreds of Catholics attended De Lima’s first mass in Manila where she delivered her first homily (see photo.)
