MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) –  Confessed “Davao Death Squad” member Edgar Matobato testified at the Philippine Senate Thursday that Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte ordered to have Cebuano businessman Richard King killed in 2014. He said that King was gunned down inside a fastfood chain, McDonald’s.

Matobato’s testimony was part of the Senate’s hearing on extra-judicial killings, called by Senator Leila De Lima.

Today, Jollibee, McDonald’s main competition in the Philippines, accused Matobato of lying in his testimony, claiming that McDonald’s may have paid him as a way to promote the American fastfood chain.

“McDonald’s is freaking out because its popularity has been eclipsed by Jollibee,” a spokesperson for the Filipino-owned fast food chain said. “What could be a better way to get free publicity and advertising than to have a Senate witness mention McDonald’s in his televised testimony?”

Manny Pacquiao Offers To Coach Senator Cayetano In Rift With Senator Trillanes

image.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Filipinos got their taxpayer money’s worth yesterday when they were treated to a live coverage of the confrontation between Senator Alan Cayatano and Antonio Trillanes over the former’s questioning of a witness brought in by Senator Leila De Lima.

The witness had testified on the Davao Death Squads (DDS) in connection with the Senate hearing on extra-judicial killings.

Trillanes called Cayetano “annoying.” Cayetano accused Trillanes of trying to be a “timekeeper.” It was better than a teleserye moment which brought out De Lima’s hidden referee skills.

After hearing of the incident, Senator Manny Pacquiao — yes the boxing champion — offered to coach Cayetano on boxing skills for future use in case there will be another confrontation with Trillanes.

“There is no reason to waste taxpayer money over hours of back and forth rhetoric and accusations,” Pacquiao said.  “I can teach Cayetano on how to shut up Trillanes in less than three rounds.”

It was a knockout of an offer by Pacquiao which Cayetano seems to be leaning towards accepting.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It was bound to happen. Two vice presidential candidates needed to settle their differences, and all it took was for Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Antonio Trillanes to sit apart.

In yesterday’s Philippine Senate hearing on alleged extra-judicial killings, Trillanes accused Cayetano of being “madaldal” (talkative, blabbermouth).

Cayetano, on the other hand, said he had the right as a senator elected by the people to get to the bottom of a witness testimony.  That witness testified that he was a member of the so-called Davao Death Squads (DDS) which allegedly perpetrated EJK in Davao City when President Rodrigo Roa Duterte was still mayor.

The hearing turned into a verbal confrontation between Cayetano and Trillanes — on and off the mike.  At one point, committee chair  Leila De Lima had to put herself in between the two senators.

In the end, Cayetano asked De Lima to order Trillanes from talking to him. “He keeps talking to me.  I don’t want to talk to him,” Cayetano said.

Cayetano moved to another seat away from Trillanes.  Trillanes was named official Senate timekeeper.  And De Lima displayed a skill never before seen from her — being a good referee.

All’s well that ends well.
