Anti-Trump Hollywood Film Opens In Theaters Halloween Night

imageHOLLYWOOD. California (The Adobo Chronicles, Los Angeles Bureau) –It’s that time of year when Hollywood rolls out horror movies to greet the Halloween season and one particular film has become politically-charged because of its title, plot and actress.

“Nightmare On Trump Towers” opens in theaters nationwide on October 31. It stars Chloë Grace Moretz who reprises her previous role of Carrie in a horror flick of the same title. The new movie happens at the Penthouse of the Trump Towers.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has cried “foul” over the movie and the timing of its release — just days before the November elections.image

Trump accused the Hillary Clinton-Tim Kaine campaign of secretly funding the movie.

“They’re obviously trying to destroy my good name and mislead the American voters — unbelievable,” Trump said.

Moretz is a known supporter of Clinton and is scheduled to speak at the DNC national convention in Philadelphia thus week.

SONA: No Cannes Moment For Director Brillante Mendoza

L-R: President Duterte, Mendoza, Pacquiao, Jose

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chroncles, Manila Bureau) – The jury has delivered its verdict:  there was no Cannes moment for film director Brillante Mendoza during President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday.

Mendoza, who won the Best Director award for his film ‘Kinatay’ at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival, was asked by Malacañang to direct the SONA, held at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.

Netizens were quick to question whether Mendoza’s “under-the-podium” and “under-Duterte’s nose” camera angles were necessary. Many said the shots were distracting at the most.

But the biggest setback for the production was Duterte’s constant going off the script.  What was advertised as a 30-minute speech ended up three times as lengthy.

Members of the diplomatic corps ended up not understanding most of Duterte’s adlibs which he delivered in Tagalog and a sprinkling of Cebuano.

Senator Manny Pacquiao repeatedly yawned during the speech.

More importantly, many television viewers were disappointed that there was no “fish ball” moment, the scene that many say won for Jaclyn Jose the Best Actress award in the last Cannes Film Festival.  She starred in Ma’Rosa, directed by Mendoza.

Maybe, it’ll be better during Duterte’s second SONA.

Kris Aquino To Wear Cary Santiago Gown At President Duterte’s First SONA

imageQUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Kris Aquino, sister of ex-President NoyNoy Aquino is attending today’s State of the Nation Address (SONA), the first by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

Aquino, in a recent television appearance on actress Marian Rivera’s morning show on  GMA 7, gave the “thumbs up” to Duterte, saying, “I think we live in a democracy and siya ang pinili ng tao. In the same way na not everybody voted for Noy in 2010, but a lot of people gave him a chance.”

The youngest of the Aquino siblings will be wearing a deep red ultra-glam long gown with criss-cross fabric that traces the body’s contour. It is a creation by Cebuano designer Cary Santiago.

Apparently, Aquino did not get the memo from the president scrapping the SONA red carpet and requiring attendees to wear business attire.

Oh, well…
