Aquino, Duterte Trade Barbs On “Broken Promises”

image.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Ex-President NoyNoy Aquino threw his first jab at President Rod Duterte today by asking the latter to fulfill his promise that he would jet ski to a disputed island occupied by China and personally stake the Philippines’ claims over disputed territory in the West Philippine Sea.

Aquino made the challenge just weeks after the United Nations-backed Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague ruled in favor of the Philippines in a territorial case brought before it.

“Was it just one of your empty campaign promises? ” asked Aquino, whose bet Mar Roxas lost the election to Duterte.

In response, Duterte asked Aquino: “What about your promise to let yourself be run over by a train?”

Duterte was referring to a promise made by Aquino in 2o13 that he was ready to be run over by a train if the LRT (Light Rail Transit) Line 1 project from Baclaran to Bacoor will not be completed in two years. To this day, the railway project remains unfinished.

Well, Duterte has six years to make good on his promise. But Aquino’s deadline has come and gone.

Ooops… Did Jeane Napoles’ Lawyer Lie?

Jeane Napoles

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The lawyer for Jeane Napoles, the youngest daughter of the alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles, said on Wednesday that the real properties in the United States that are linked to her were registered in her name because she was applying for US citizenship.

This, according to a report by GMA News.

“Pinangalan namin sa kanya iyan kasi at that time she was applying for a US citizenship. Alam n’yo naman kung mag-apply ka ng citizenship kailangan mo ipakita na meron kang mga holdings, may properties ka,” legal counsel Atty. Stephen David claimed.

David also said that since his client does not own any of the properties mentioned, she does not owe the Philippine government P17.88 million in tax liabilities in 2011 and 2012 since she had no income during that time.

But an investigation by The Adobo Chronicles  shows that Napoles’ lawyer may have lied.

There is no such requirement to own property in the U.S. in order to become a naturalized citizen.

To become a naturalized United States citizen, one must be at least eighteen years of age at the time of filing, a legal permanent resident (or non-citizen national) of the United States, and have had a status of a legal permanent resident in the United States for five years before the application. The applicant must be a “person of good moral character”, and must pass a test on United States history and government and have a working knowledge of the English language.

Maybe, Napoles’ lawyer needed a new pair of glasses or perhaps misread the U.S. immigration law?

Is this an attempt for tax evasion gone bust?

Hillary Clinton Set To Announce Her VP Pick This Week In Florida

imageMIAMI, Florida (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Forget about Tim Kaine, Elizabeth Warren or Julian Castro.  None of them will be Hillary Clinton’s pick for her vice presidential running mate.

The Clinton campaign has set the stage for the much-awaited announcement and the choice of venue provides the best clue thus far on who Clinton will name.

The venue will most likely be the Trump National Doral resort in Miami, site of the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant. Talk about an elaborate production!

A Clinton campaign intern, who spoke on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to speak on behalf of the campaign, confirmed that Clinton’s choice is none other than Senator Marco Rubio.

That’s right — a Republican and former GOP presidential candidate.

Many consider Clinton’s choice as brilliant.  Rubio will bring with him a lot of Republican votes, especially those who have vowed not to support Trump.

Rubio’s Cuban heritage would surely lock up the Latino vote not just in Florida (a swing state) but across the country.

The Clinton campaign is hoping that a Rubio vice presidency will demonstrate to America that Hillary is willing to cross the political aisle and finally unify a divided country.

The telegenic Rubio is quite easy on the eyes, and that is considered a huge perk for the Democratic Party.

Let the games begin!
