BACOLOD CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – In a presidential campaign stop in this central Philippine city,  Vice President Jejomar Binay appealed to senior citizens to help him become the next president.

In a speech at Barangay Banago in Bacolod City, Binay said senior citizens deserve more than just free movies, free birthday cakes, senior citizen discounts at restaurants and free burial expenses.

Binay said that if elected president, he will ensure that seniors will be given free false teeth, adult diapers and Viagra.

“The problem of senior citizens who are male is they pee in their pants. Maybe in the future male senior citizens will be given diapers,” Binay said. He added: “The women have no problem with diapers because when they are old they have no panties … So we will not give diapers, we will just give Viagra…”

Binay’s campaign promise seemed to have resonated among senior citizens not just in Bacolod but all over the country. The latest poll shows him moving up again to the top spot as far as the people’s choice for the next president is concerned.

Senator Grace Poe, who has led the polls in recent weeks, is back to second place.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Vote-buying is not a new phenomenon in the Philippines, but this practice has definitely kept up with the times!

Gone are the days when political candidates hand out envelopes containing cash to encourage the masses to vote for them.

Free t-shirts and free take-out meals from Jollibee are still the norm, but a new vote-buying scheme has emerged: free smart phones.

Just ask the ‘Jejomar Binay for President’ campaign. It’s called the BinayPhone.

Smart move, or opening a pandora’s box?

PHILIPPINE CATHOLIC BISHOP: ‘GAYS CAN BECOME SAINTS, BUT NOT CORRUPT POLITICIANS’

CEBU CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® )  – A ranking Catholic bishop in the Philippines issued a challenge to gay men and women to aspire to be holy and to become saints.

The challenge was posed by Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas during a convention on family and life by Catholic leaders in the country. Villegas is the president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

“That first thing we should call to mind is Jesus died for all. At the cross, there were only seven words attributed to Jesus, and at the cross, He did not ask ‘Are you a homosexual? If you are, I’m not dying for you. No. There was no such thing,” he said.

Asked by a reporter if philandering and corrupt public officials — which abound in the Philippines — could also become saints, Villegas answered:

“Well, that’s a different case altogether. These politicians who cheat on their wives and steal money from the people are committing a grave sin not only to themselves but to many people who suffer as a result of the misdeeds. And that would disqualify them from sainthood.”

Villegas urged corrupt politicians to repent, reform their lives and to return every single centavo that they stole from taxpayers. “That, he said, is the only way for them to become holy and qualify for sainthood.”
