Filipino Lechon May Prolong Your Life!

ZURICH, Switzerland (The Adobo Chronicles) – Lechon is a signature item in the cuisine of the Philippines. It is a suckling pig roasted in an open fire pit. No celebration, fiesta or party is complete without this crispy and succulent Filipino delicacy.

But lechon has its health impact. It is high in cholesterol content and has been linked to high blood pressure, heart problems and weight issues among Filipinos.

But a new study from  ETH, an internationally-recognized institution of science and technology based in Zurich, Switzerland, may just have absolved lechon from its ill reputation.

Lechon, just like bacon, may have the ability to prolong life, according to a recent study by researchers from ETH.

The pork product is apparently full of niacin – also known as Vitamin B3 – which has been linked to a longer life span. Researchers tested the theory by feeding a selection of roundworms a good dose of niacin and their life lasted one-tenth longer.

You can also find the vitamin in paprika, sun-dried tomatoes and peanuts. But why bother? You can find niacin in lechon, which is all that really matters. So eat up!

Oh, and don’t forget the sauce. Not just any sauce, but lechon sauce by Mang Tomas!

Who will play Rachel Dolezal in the new Sony Pictures film, “Spokane?”

HOLLYWOOD, California  (The Adobo Chronicles) – Sony Pictures just announced that Cameron Crowe has been chosen to direct a new film about the white woman who has been posing as African American.  The film is titled “Spokane,” named after the city in which Rachel Dolezal headed the local NAACP chapter.

Crowe, who has come under fire for casting white actress Emma Stone as Allison Ng, a part Hawaiian and part Chinese character in the film, “Aloha,” is not taking any chances this time around.

Crowe wanted to cast Dolezal to play herself in the new movie, but he eventually nixed the idea, saying she was not “white enough.”

An open casting call has been scheduled  next week in Hollywood.

Jeb Bush Declares Candidacy For President With Brilliant Campaign Theme

imageMIAMI, Florida (The Adobo Chronicles) –  The 2016 U.S. presidential elections is turning out to be another Bush vs. Clinton contest.

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, the son and brother of two former presidents, has declared his candidacy to seek the Republican nomination for president.

It was an announcement that most people saw coming.

But what political analysts as well as Democratic campaign strategists are raving about is the campaign strategy that the younger Bush has chosen in order to clinch the nomination.

His campaign theme is: “Beating Around the Bush.”

The strategy would involve ducking all media questions involving his stand on issues important to the American voters, issues where his stand had previously been made crystal clear, including:

  • Defending voter ID laws that disproportionately affect women, minority, and student voters
  • Thinking that citizenship for undocumented immigrants is an “undeserving reward”
  • Absolutely believing that businesses should be able to discriminate against gay Americans
  • Advocating for the public shaming of single mothers
  • Taking policy advice from his brother — and recently defending invading Iraq
  • Supportiing a budget that guts Medicare and education funding

It will be a presidential campaign season that will frustrate many in the media. What would normally be a busy news season would be a slow news day, every day, because Bush will not be responding to any media questions.

If Bush wins the Republican nomination, there might not even be a presidential debate.

With Bush (or whoever among the declared Republican presidential candidates clinches the nomination), who needs a debate?
