LOS ANGELES, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – The 57th Annual Grammy Awards will be held at the Los Angeles Staples Center on February 8, 2015.  It will be broadcast live at 8pm Eastern on CBS.

Leading the impressive list of nominees this year is American singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor. Her song and album, ‘All About That Bass,’ was nominated ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Album of the Year.’

The song , released on June 30, 2014 , was co-written by Trainor and Kevin Kadish, and produced by Kadish. Trainor and Kadish’s body image issues during adolescence served as the inspiration for the song. As of December, 2014, it has sold over four million copies.

During the Grammy Awards night, Trainor will not be performing her nominated song. Instead, she has invited a Filipino street performing group – Chubbeyonce and Team ASPO – to do the honors.

Trainor and Kadish stumbled upon a cover of their song by this Filipino group on YouTube. They were both so impressed, and the rest is history.

JOHN BOEHNER DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH REPUBLICAN SUPPORT TO BE REELECTED HOUSE SPEAKER

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – On Tuesday, January 6, the U.S. House of Representatives will formally elect the next speaker. Incumbent John Boehner may not be it.

At least two conservative hard-liners are now offering themselves up as candidates to unseat Boehner.

Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Florida, said this weekend that he won’t support Boehner as speaker when lawmakers vote Tuesday, and offered himself up as an alternative. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, did the same thing on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends Sunday.”

A poll conducted by The Adobo Chronicles shows that 60 percent of Republican congressmen are planning not to vote to reelect Boehner. Click on video for Boehner’s reaction to the poll.

Determined to keep his post as the second  in line in case the President of the United States dies or is incapacitated, Boehner intensified his reelection campaign by courting the House Democrats. He told reporters that based on his personal conversations with his Democratic colleagues in Congress, he has at least  40 percent support from those in the opposing party. “That means I am assured of being reelected speaker,” he said.

Stats quo.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The December 30 wedding of film stars Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera was undoubtedly the wedding of the year by Philippine standards — extravagant, pompous and star-studded. Their Seven Million-peso, 12-foot wedding cake even made international headlines. It, however, failed to break the current Guinness World Record for the largest wedding cake.

But that was 2014.  It is now 2015, and another Filipino Royal Wedding is coming up soon. February 15, 2015 to be exact.

It is the wedding of Philippines Senator Chiz Escudero and actress Heart Evangelista. The couple got engaged last August 23 and are scheduled to tie the knot the day after Valentine’s at Balesin Island Club.

All eyes, are of course, on the couple’s wedding cake.  How will it compare to the Dantes-Rivera cake, and more importantly, will it break the current Guinness record?

The world’s largest wedding cake on record weighed 6.818 tonnes (15,032 lb) and was made by chefs at the Mohegan Sun Hotel and Casino, Uncasville, Connecticut, USA and displayed at their New England bridal showcase on 8 February 2004.

The Adobo Chronicles has learned that the couple has chosen a cake designer.  While the design and dimensions of the cake remain secret, we can confirm who has been commissioned to do the baking and designing honors. Her name is Judy Uson.  Read more about this celebrity cake designer and chef in the online magazine Positively Filipino.

Whether or not the cake will make it to the Guinness World Records remains to be seen.  Stay tuned.
