U.S. PROTESTS MISS WORLD RESULTS

Bali, Indonesia – The United States was aiming for the “grand slam” at this year’s Miss World beauty pageant, focused on winning the crown to add to the Miss Universe title won earlier this year by Miss U.S.A. Olivia Culpo.

Olivia Jordan (yes, another Olivia), U.S.A.’s entry to this pretigious pageant held over the weekend in the Indonesian resort of Bali, made it to the top 10 contestants during Saturday’s finals, but not to the top 5.

Miss Philippines, Megan Young, an early favorite in the competition, went on to win the title, the first ever by a Filipina in Miss World’s 62-year history.  Miss France was first runner-up and Miss Ghana came in third.

Less than 24 hours after the pageant finals, the U.S. filed a formal protest with the Miss World pageant organizers, saying that Young should be credited as a U.S. entry as well.  Young was born in the United States to an American father and Filipina mother, but moved at age 10 to the Philippines where she is currentlly a model, actress and television host.  “Technically, she is also Miss U.S.A,” the protest document indicated. “Even her surname is very American. Can’t she be at least declared as a ‘dual contestant’ by virtue of her dual citizenship?” it added.

Miss World owner Julia Morley has not returned calls from The Adobo Chronicles seeking comment on the U.S. protest.

  1. Megan is a mixed race and she prefer to be identify as Filipina. Same as Obama he is a mixed race but choses to be American and not Kenyan.

  6. Such a petty move… Can’t they just be proud that an American blood won the prestigious pageant rather than calling a protest? Remember that Meagan competed in the Philippines to represent the country and the main reason why she grown up to be what she is right now because she was raised in a Filipino way of living … a true Filipino spirit and a true Filipino heart.

  10. I’ll agree with US protest if they haven’t had their own Ms. USA in the pageant, but since they had their own “Olivia” to represent USA then why claim Megan as if their hers too? Just it because Olivia didn’t make it?

  11. Bruno Mars never represented Philippines, he being half Filipino. He chose to represent the world, not just Hawaii or America where he was born. Its such a condescending clamor by those protesters who even think about these issue. Have a life.

  12. oh come on USA? from the very start of the pageant why you didn’t verified the qualification of Ms Megan. Tanga pala kayo ang higpit nyo mag verify sa immigration pero kay Ms Megan now lang kayo mag claim kasi nanalo na?hahhaah inggit lang yan

  13. I never thought that US would protest for something like this… have they lose their sense of pride? fighting for something that isn’t even representing them? since when have they been this shallow?

You got Disneyland, you got Hollywood and wonderland, you got very rich business people etc.etc. Don’t be greedy and leave Our Lovely PHILIPPINES alone for your own bloody sake. If Meagan didn’t win, can you recognise her? My answer is “Bull shit!!!!”Get lost!

  15. To Adobo Chronicles — I do not like this malicious article if your aim is to create and stir a stupid issue. Specifically, can you name names of who these people are complaining and not just state “The United States”?

  17. If I were Miss USA, I’d deny my american citizenship and find another country who will recognize my efforts in joining this contest. Poor Miss USA, she was betrayed by her own country.

She left USA at the age of 10. She was raised and grew up in the Philippines. So the reason why she won is that her CORE VALUES (as she answered in the pageant) is MOSTLY FILIPINO.

I get the point where US is claiming her as an American. We FIlipinos do the same thing when somebody like Jessica Sanchez, Apl De Ap, Rob Schneider made it in the industry. We are proud that part of their individuality is Filipino.

But what I don’t get is that seeing articles like this saying that USA protests about her that her win should be credited as American and not Filipino just because their representative didn’t make it and the hopes of filling this year having Miss USA as Miss World 2013 and Miss Universe 2013 did not push thru.

I don’t understand why Americans are nasty, racist, narcissist and egomaniacs. Why don’t you be happy for others’ success? Can’t you just accept the fact that the world does not revolve around you? Can’t you just accept the fact that there are other people who are better than you?

America is not the only best country in the world. ACCEPT IT. PERIOD.

    1. I hear you. Lots of gullible people here. From the name “ADOBO” Chronicles itself, they should have realized that the article was made for such. (satire-the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.) *facepalm*

  20. she came there to represent Philippines. I think it doesn’t make sense that you’re wearing a sash saying “Philippines” then declare that they won as well. Maybe if that’s what they want, Ms World should have something like heritage check or whatever, but for now, the title should be “Philippines”

  21. obviously they’re running after the title! why didn’t they protest before the pageant? Megan Young is a FILIPINO CITIZEN and that ends their stupid protest!

  23. if i were in the shoes of Miss USA, Olivia Jordan, i would be very unsulted of what the US did. by wanting so much na maging US representative talaga si Megan is a big insult to Ms. Olivia. Megan joined the competition bringing the name of the Philippines and won it with Filipino pride.

  26. i totally agree that megan young has dual citizenship, but she entered the contest as a filipino citizen and not a filipino-american…filipino and american are two different nationalities…come on, please use your logic and common sense…i’m calling our “mambabatas” who are expert in constitution to share their expertise on this matter… my question is why didn’t u.s.a. claim megan young as an american before the finals was over, then u.s.a. would have two entries instead of one, and that would not be fair to other countries…i’m sure there will be so many protests from other countries against u.s.a. that will follow…

  27. so Olivia Culpo, Miss Universe 2012, should not have been a representative only of the US but also of Italy, seeing how her parents are of Itialian descent..and maybe all the other candidates of any pageant with mix races should be dual, or how many race they have in them contestants. That’s what they want, huh? :))))
