Washington, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – The First Family was very disappointed with Filipina Executive Chef Cris Comerford over yesterday’s Thanksgiving dinner at The White House.
Comerford, the first woman and minority to occupy the top culinary position, decided to go traditional for The White House Thanksgiving dinner this year, serving the Obamas with roast turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, mushroom gravy and cranberry sauce. The only non-traditional item she served was Michelle Obama’s favorite, egg custard pie (instead of pumpkin pie).
Shortly after dinner, Comerford was summoned by the President to the Oval Room only to be reprimanded for failing to serve lechon, a whole roasted pig that’s a signature dish in Filipino gatherings, especially during holidays.
“I only have two more Thanksgiving Days left in this House, and you still haven’t served me lechon,” Obama chided Comerford.
The president is known to love pork dishes, including the famous kalua pork from his native Hawaii.
“I’ve heard so much about this crispy and succulent Filipino roast pork (not necessarily referring to the pork barrel scandal that has recently plagued the Philippine government) and I’ve always wanted to try it,” Obama added.
Maybe, same time next year?
