DES MOINES, Iowa (The Adobo Chronicles) – Now it can be told. There was no Donald Trump in last night’s FOX News GOP presidential debate. He has dropped out.
The runner-up in the GOP presidential polls has also hinted he’s next to quit.
For those who watched the televised debate, they know that Cruz threatened to leave the stage after he faced tough and persistent questioning from the moderators. It is the closest indication yet that he is about to drop out of the race.
That would leave Senator Marco Rubio as the potential Republican nominee.
The circus is finally coming to and end, and will likely be replaced by a comedy of errors!
CONCORD, New Hampshire (The Adobo Chronicles)- The campaign trail is proving to be grueling for Senator Ted Cruz, Republican presidential candidate.
After giving a speech before college students in New Hamphire, he complained about a mild headache and blurred vision, prompting his campaign staff to call the paramedics.
He was taken on an ambulance to a nearby private hospital. There, Emergency Room nurses took his blood pressure reading, gave him an EKG test, was given an aspirin, then rolled him into a private room reserved for VIP patients. He was hooked up to an oxygen machine and was administered a liquid infusion as a preventive measure for dehydration.
Three of the hospital’s top doctors took turns in evaluating his condition. Complete blood and urine tests were administered.
Cruz then went through a chest x-ray and then a full-body CT scan.
As a precautionary measure, doctors recommended an emergency colonoscopy which was immediately performed.
When the senator recovered from sedation, the hospital’s chief doctor was at his bedside to deliver the news: ‘You’re fine, just a little fatigue. We can now release you.”
On his way out, he dropped by the hospital’s accounts payable department to settle his bill.
To his surprise, the hospital staff told him his total bill was zero, and that it’s been fully paid for.
“By whom?” the senator asked.
“By your health insurance, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas,” he was told.
It was ironic that just minutes before he was rushed to the E.R., Cruz he told a campaign audience that he had no health insurance because President Barack Obama’s health care law caused the cancellation of his coverage.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – So, who is considered a natural-born citizen? Well, it all depends on the country and the legal interpretation by constitutionalists.
The Philippines and the United States have candidates running for president in their respective 2016 presidential elections. Both countries require presidential candidates to be “natural-born” citizens.
The Philippines’ Senator Grace Poe faces legal qualification challenges by virtue of her being a foundling. The Philippine nationality law is based upon the principle of jus sanguinis (Latin: right of blood) and therefore descent from a parent who is a citizen or national of the Republic of the Philippines is the primary method of acquiring Philippine citizenship. Poe’s parents, and their citizenship, have not been ascertained to this moment.
Ted Cruz, on the other hand, while having an American mother, was born of a Cuban father — in Canada. The constitutional text provides that a U.S. president, unlike other elected officials, must be a “natural born citizen.” Some say this language could not mean anyone born a citizen or else the text would have simply stated “born citizen.” The word “natural” is a limiting qualifier that indicates only some persons who are born citizens qualify. Moreover, when the Constitution was enacted, the word “natural” meant something not created by statute, as with natural rights or natural law, which instead were part of the common law.
Both scenarios are curious cases that may or may not be resolved in this election year.
So what happens if either Poe or Cruz is elected president remains the million dollar (and , in the case of the Philippines, peso) question.
Our recommendation? Just vote your conscience. Just don’t ask Donald Trump.
