MOVE OVER MANNY PACQUIAO, HERE COMES THE TRUE FIGHT OF THE CENTURY

The true ‘Fight of the Century’

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – For millions of Filipinos disappointed over the supposed ‘Fight of the Century’ between countryman Manny Pacquiao and American Floyd Mayweather, there is light at the end of the tunnel. The real boxing match of the century is in the offing.

In the north corner: former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas. In the south corner: Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. Presidential candidates both.

It all started with a word war between the presidential hopefuls, with Roxas saying that a peaceful Davao City under Duterte was a myth, and the mayor saying that Roxas’ degree from Wharton School of Business (at University of Pennsylvania) was a myth.

Duterte then said that he wanted to slap Roxas for insulting the people of Davao, to which Roxas replied:  “Sa dami ng problema na hinaharap ng ating bansa, ikaw nauuwi ka sa kung ano-anong mga kalokohan. Gawin mo nalang kung ano gusto mo gawin. Sampalan? Bakit pa sampalan pambabae yan. Suntukan nalang.” (Of all the problems our country is facing, you only think about ridiculous things. Do what you will. A slapping match? Why a slapping match, it’s for women. How about a fistfight.)

And so the boxing match is set. Both camps are finalizing negotiations with the venue at the Philippine Arena.

President NoyNoy Aquino has already agreed to be the official referee.

The fight will be aired live on CNN Philippines and will be available for viewing around the world via Pay-Per-View.

DONALD TRUMP CALLS PHILIPPINE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE RODRIGO DUTERTE A COPYCAT

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles) – Since launching his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, Donald Trump has insulted Latinos, made  fun of the disabled, tweeted neo-Nazi propaganda, and advocated a Nazi-style registration system. Now, he’s advocating a policy that speaks of Genocide — ‘taking out families’ of terrorists.

Across the Pacific Ocean, another presidential candidate — in the Philippines — is running on a record and platform of authoritarianism, extra-judicial execution of criminals, taking the law into his own hands, and has no qualms about cursing Pope Francis. His name is Rodrigo Duterte, mayor of Davao, one of the largest Philippine cities.

Both candidates are extremely popular — based on polls — and have a good shot at becoming the chief executive of their respective countries.

The Adobo Chronicles caught up with Trump at Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas while he was sipping champagne with contestants in the Miss Universe Pageant to be held this month, and we asked him what he thinks of Duterte.

‘He’s  a copycat,’ Trump said, ‘why does he have to imitate my style, why can’t he be more original and be his own man?’

Reacting to Trump’s comments via phone, Duterte told us in Tagalog : ‘P.I., he is the one who is a copycat. He’s been in politics for just months, I’ve been around for many many years.’

Well that says it all: birds of the same feather don’t always want to flock together.

PHILIPPINE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE DUTERTE’S CHILDREN: ‘OUR DAD IS NO PRINCESS DIANA’

DAVAO CITY, Philippines—Two of presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s children have issued a public apology over their father’s “street thug” personality but stressed that he was very capable of leading the country.

“I apologize for his behavior,” his daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio wrote on Instagram on Tuesday, adding that her dad  “does not have the finesse of Lady Diana.”

Her brother, Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte also apologized, saying his father does not behave like royals do.

Duterte drew the ire of netizens after he cursed Pope Francis on national television, blaming the pontiff for his being stuck in traffic while in Manila.

Both Sara and Paolo however promised that if their dad  becomes president of the Philippines, they will do all they can to train him on good manners and right conduct, social etiquette, international diplomacy and royal protocol, realizing that as president, he would have to hobnob with the likes of Queen Elizabeth as well as presidents and prime ministers of other countries. Not to mention Pope Francis.
