Ninoy Aquino International Airport To Get A Serious, Comprehensive Facelift

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It’s been one mishap after another. The problems encountered by Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) just won’t stop — collapsed ceiling, laglag bala, passenger suicides, airconditioning breakdowns, power outage, you name it.

These mishaps have prompted Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA)  General Manager Jose Angel Honrado to declare a state of “bad luck” for NAIA, especially Terminal 3.

But relief will come soon to the thousands of airline passengers that go through the seemingly doomed airport every single day.

With the approval of President NoyNoy Aquino and Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya, Honrado said a very serious facelift will begin immediately at NAIA  to dispel whatever evil that’s been looming over the airport.

Honrado’s solution? Feng Shui. image

Among Honrado’s proposals:

1. Relocate all airport terminal windows that are facing west so that they face east instead

2. Replace all NAIA’s potted greens and flowers with fortune plants and curly bamboos

3. Build a water fountain inside each of NAIA’s three terminal buildings

4. Keep all  airport doors and windows open 24 hours so that the “bad luck” can escape and “good luck” can come in

5. Require all airport personnel to wear a lei of fresh garlic to drive away the evil spirits

6.  Ban food concessions from selling dinuguan (pork blood stew)

A Feng Shui expert has been hired and will begin work immediately.

Is this the beginning of the end for NAIA’s reputation as one of the worst airports in the world?

President Aquino Withdraws ‘Best Man’ Status for Dingdong Dantes, Chiz Escudero Weddings

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino: always  the Best Man, never the Groom.

Aquino, a bachelor, seems to be a favorite Best Man for celebrity weddings, including those of actors Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera, as well as Senator Chiz Escudero and actress Heart Evangelista.

But how the world turns.

Aquino officially announced today that he is withdrawing his “Best Man” status for the weddings of both  Dantes and Escudero, and it’s all because of politics.

Escudero is an independent candidate for vice president, challenging Aquino’s (and his Liberal Party’s) anointed candidate, Leni Robredo.

Dantes, on the other hand, just quit his post as Commissioner of the Aquino administration’s National Youth Commission so that he could actively campaign for his chosen bets in the 2016 presidential elections. The actor is reportedly leaning towards campaigning for Senator Grace Poe, and not Aquino’s anointed presidential candidate Mar Roxas. Of course, the president is not at all happy.

Blood is thicker than water, so they say.  In this case, politics takes precedence over weddings.

The Philippines’ Politics Of Secrets

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In Philippine politics, what you see is not necessarily what you get. (Well, actually, it’s not just in the Philippines).

It has been long rumored that incumbent President NoyNoy Aquino secretly supports Senator Grace Poe’s candidacy to become his successor, despite the fact that he has publicly endorsed and ‘anointed’ former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas to become the next president of the Philippines. Roxas is running under Aquino’s Liberal Party.

Poe was Aquino’s original choice to be Roxas’ VP running mate, but  she declined and instead opted to run for president. The senator has since been leading in the polls while Roxas has consistently  been rated at the bottom of the presidential pack.

But it seems there are more secret deals that Filipino voters may not be aware of.

Reliable sources indicate that Roxas has all but accepted the fact that he is not going to win the election.  However, the same reliable sources said there is a standing agreement between Poe and Roxas (with Aquino’s blessing, of course), that if Poe becomes president,  she will appoint Roxas as Philippine ambassador to the United States.  Roxas’ wife, broadcaster Korina Sanchez, has reportedly been wanting to live in Washington, D.C. to be part of the U.S. capital’s social elite.

Many political observers have also expressed opinion that Miriam Defensor-Santiago strategy has always been to recruit Bongbong Marcos, son of the late Ferdinand E. Marcos, as her vice presidential running mate.  The young Marcos knows that being the running mate of Santiago, who is dealing with cancer, is his best and quickest ticket to the presidency.  Should anything happen to Santiago, Marcos becomes president.

As far as Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is concerned, it is believed that he is not really interested in becoming president.  He just wanted a national forum — through the campaign — to promote what he has done in his city in as far as peace and order is concerned.  His ultimate goal? To win the Nobel Peace Prize!

Last but not least, Vice President Jejomar Binay’s main objective for running is to avoid prosecution in graft and corruption charges that are expected to be filed against him once his VP term expires.  The charges are in connection with the overpriced Makati City parking structure that was started during his term as mayor of the city.  If Binay becomes president, he will continue to be immune from lawsuits, as are all presidents during their term of office.

Speaking of secrets, many are wondering who among the presidential candidates has the backing of the United States.  That, dear readers, is top secret.
