Philippine Commission Called For Madonna’s Deportation

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Philippines’ National Historical Commission (NHCP), upset over Madonna’s use of the Filipino flag during her ‘Rebel Heart” concert in Manila, had called for the deportation of the Queen of Pop.

Teodoro Atienza, chief of the Heraldry Section of NHCP, complained during a radio interview that Madonna wore the flag inappropriately and let it touch the stage floor. (Republic Act No. 8491 prohibits wearing the flag as costume or uniform.)

Atienza sought to contact the Philippines’ Bureau of Immigration to ask the agency to deport Madonna and her crew for violating Philippine law. Alas, it was too late.  The diva had already departed for her next concert in Singapore.

Just days earlier, a Filipino Catholic archbishop called for a boycott of Madonna’s concert, calling the singer’s act as a “subtle attack of evil.”

The Philippines seems to have a love-hate relationship with international celebrities.

The issues surrounding Madonna’s concerts in Manila are remiscent of the Beatles’ visit to the Philippines during the Marcos years.

WARDROBE MALFUNCTION: PHILIPPINES AT WAR WITH CHINA?

SINGAPORE (The Adobo Chronicles ) – Peace-loving Filipinos always know how to display or wear the Philippine flag. Or do they?

At the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore, Filipino track and field athletes, including gold medalists Eric Shaun Cray and Kayla Richardson,  were photographed wearing uniforms with an inverted Philippine flag.

The blue stripe is always on top and the red stripe on the bottom — unless the Philippines has declared, or is at war, with another country. The athletes’ uniforms had the red stripe on top.

Athletics chief Philip Juico  explained later that it was just a mistake by the supplier.

Unconfirmed reports say that the uniforms were made in China.

China and the Philippines are currently involved in an escalating territorial dispute over oil-rich islands in the South China Sea, known as the Spratly islands.

Hmmmm.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS WILL MAKE IT UP TO FILIPINOS AT THE SUPERBOWL

imageSeattle, Washington – NFC Champions Seattle Seahawks have a lot of making up to do, and it’s not with the San Francisco 49ers, but with Filipinos.

In their season game against the Minnesota  Vikings late last year, the Seahawks attempted to show the world their humanitarian concern by having Doug Baldwin, who is part Filipino, carry the Philippine flag as the team entered the stadium. It was a show of solidarity with the Filipino people following Typhoon Haiyan which killed thousands and left thousands more injured and homeless.  There was one problem: Baldwin carried the Philippine flag upside down with the red stripe on top. The red stripe on top, instead of the blue, meant that the Philippines was at war which, clearly, it was not.

Now that the Seahawks are in the Superbowl, they announced that they will reprise their criticized entrance when they enter the New York stadium. This time, Baldwin will carry the Philippine flag the correct way, with the blue stripe on top.

One hundred million Filipinos will be watching. Go Seahawks!
