PHILIPPINES’ 2016 ELECTIONS WILL SEE NORA AUNOR VS. VILMA SANTOS

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The 2016 Philippine presidential elections just got more interesting.

Vice President Jejomar Binay and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte  were both hoping to enlist Senator Grace Poe as their vice presidential running mate, but the popular and well-loved senator has all but rejected both offers.  She is contemplating on running for president herself.

In an effort to boost their quest for the presidency, Binay and Duterte have named their respective choice for a running mate. Duterte says that his choice for a VP running mate is Batangas Governor Vilma Santos while Binay has picked multi-awarded actress Nora Aunor.  Filipinos, of course, know that in their younger years, Santos and Aunor were rivals for the title of movie superstar. Santos  was a former movie star herself. It would be  déjà vu for both actresses if they decide to face each other in the election.

So how about Grace Poe, herself the daughter of two famous actors, the late Fernando Poe, Jr. (who ran unsuccessfully for president five years ago) and movie queen Susan Roces?

Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, the presumptive heir to partymate President NoyNoy Aquino wanted Poe to be his VP running mate but the latter has refused. So Roxas is left with no potential strong running mate.

Poe, on the other hand, is leaning towards drafting actor Bong Revilla, Jr. as her running mate.  Unfortunatelty, if Revilla would indeed be Poe’s VP choice, he has to campaign from inside his jail cell.  Revilla is currently incarcerated for charges of corruption .

Forget about ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ How about ‘Elections with the Stars?’ It’s really more fun in the Philippines!

MAR ROXAS: ‘I WAS BETRAYED BY PRESIDENT AQUINO’

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) –  Initially one of the leading contenders in the 2010 Philippine presidential elections, now Secretary of Interior and Local Governments Mar Roxas slid down to become a vice-presidential candidate in order to make way for  then Senator NoyNoy Aquino. Roxas was was defeated by Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay by the narrowest margin in the history of the Fifth Republic.

In the last 5 years, Roxas has been one of Aquino’s staunchest supporters and apologists, often sacrificing his own reputation and integrity just to make Aquino look good in the eyes of the Filipino people.

Now, Aquino is reportedly mulling on courting Senators Grace Poe and Francis Escudero to run as a tandem under the Liberal Party  in the 2016 presidential elections, as the ratings of presumptive standard bearer Roxas fail to improve.

Binay is the opposition party’s standard bearer.

Upon hearing of Aquino’s plan for the party, Roxas screamed an expletive, the same one that he was heard saying at a campaign rally in 2010. (The Adobo Chronicles is a family-oriented news site, so we can’t print the expletive.)

“I have been betrayed,” Roxas said. “After all that I’ve done for Aquino, this is what I get,” he added. A very religious man, Roxas likened himself to Jesus being betrayed by Judas.

In his frustration, Roxas told reporters that if he is not annointed as the party’s standard bearer, he will immediately resign as Local Governments secretary and work for Binay’s political campaign. “Let’s see who will have the last laugh,” Roxas said.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) –  The Philippines can be heaven- or hell-bound, depending on how Filipinos cast their votes in the 2016 presidential elections.

Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) president Archbishop Socrates Villegas made this statement as he urged Filipino voters to make prayer and discernment the prerequisites in choosing their candidates.

“Make your vote a product of your prayer and discernment…Remember, your vote can bring heaven to the Philippines. Your vote can also bring hell to the Philippines,” Villegas said in a video presentation during Thursday’s launch of “One Good Vote,” the voter education campaign of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV).

Asked by reporters what he meant by the choice of heaven or hell, The archbishop said: ‘Very simple. Filipinos can vote for Vice President Jejomar Binay, or Senator Grace Poe.’

Anwering a follow-up question from The Adobo Chronicles about the possibility of Department of Interior and Local Governments Secretary Mar Roxas running for president in 2016, Villegas said, ‘That would be Purgatory.’
