MIAMI, Florida (The Adobo Chronicles) – Speaking to reporters on the eve of the Miss Universe Pageant in which he is one of the celebrity judges, Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao has announced his early retirement.

The 37-year-old boxer, congressman, actor and basketball coach shocked millions of his fans who have been so looking forward to his fight with Floyd Mayweather reportedly scheduled on May 2 this year.

“I love music but music does not love me,” the teary-eyed Pacquiao said as he formally bid goodbye to his singing career.

His one and only single, Para Sa ‘Yo  Laban Na ‘To (This Fight Is For You), went platinum shortly after it was released in the Philippines in 2013.

Pacquiao stars in a film that is opening in U.S. theaters this week. The film “Manny” documents his life and journey from a young boy living in poverty to a world-renowned boxing champion.  It is narrated by Oscar Award nominated actor Liam Neeson.

DORAL, Florida (The Adobo Chronicles) – The 63rd Miss Universe Pageant will be held in Doral, Florida on January 25.  Contestants from 88 countries will vie for the coveted title currently held by Gabriela Isler of Venezuela.

The fate of the beauty aspirants will be in the hands of a panel of celebrity judges which includes Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.

Joining Pacquiao on the panel of judges will be TV host and shoe designer Kristin Cavallari, actor William Levy, reality TV star Lisa Vanderpump and fashion journalist and TV host Louise Roe.

As the pageant’s final night approaches, Pacquiao has reportedly made a special request of pageant owner Donald Trump. The boxer, congressman, and basketball coach apparently wants to be replaced as judge.  Instead, he told Trump that he wanted to be one of the performers during the live telecast.

“It’s been a long-time dream of mine to be able to sing on national and international television, and this could be my one and only chance to do so,” Pacquiao said in his native Tagalog language.

“For almost a year now, I have been practicing the Oscar Award-winning song, “Let It Go,” from the film “Frozen.” “I know I can do a good job.

Trump could not be reached for comment tonight as he is reportedly socializing with the pageant contestants at poolside located within the Doral Golf Resort & Spa, host hotel for the Miss Universe contestants.

So the question remains of Pacquiao come pageant night: judge or performer?

DORAL, Florida (The Adobo Chronicles) – The 63rd Miss Universe Pageant will be held on January 25, 2015, at the US Century Bank Arena at Florida International University in Doral, Florida.

Who will succeed reigning Miss Universe Gabriela Isler of Venezuela? That final decision will be in the hands of a distinguished international panel of judges.

Unconfirmed reports say that Filipino world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao has been invited to be one of the judges. Pacquiao is not only a boxer; he is a basketball coach and player, a music lover (Karaoke), a one-star general in the Philippines Armed Forces, an elected Congressman, and a connoiseur of beauty.

The only thing that is preventing Pacquiao from accepting the invitation is his mom’s demand to Miss Universe Pageant owner Donald Trump that she replace her son as judge. “I am more qualified than Manny to judge beauty and talent, and I have an equally recognized status as an international celebrity,” the mom, popularly known as Mommy Dionisia, told reporters in Manila.

Trump will make a decision in the coming days.

As the pageant’s season is heating up, there have been the early crowd favorites named including Miss USA Nia Sanchez, Miss India Noyonita Lodh, Miss Brazil Melissa Gurgel, and Miss Philippines Mary Jean Lastimosa.

As of the moment, Miss Philippines Mary Jean Lastimosa garners the most likes and shares on the official Facebook page of Miss Universe. The contestant has been loudly recognized on the social media for being ‘such an advocate for peace and humanity’ considering that she grew up on a war-torn province in her country.

Meanwhile, Natalie Morales and Thomas Roberts are appointed as the hosts of the grand event, together with Miss Universe 2013 3rd runner-up Ariella Arida from Philippines as an ‘On the Scene’ insider.

There will be ample Philippines representation at the pageant in Doral — a contestant, a judge, an ‘On the Scene’ commentator and  hundreds of the estimated 21,000 Florida-based Filipinos  who live in the Metropolitan Miami Area.
