MANNY PACQUIAO: FROM RAGS TO RICHES TO RAGS

SARANGANI, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) –  No rags to riches story could be more inspiring than that of Filipino champion boxer Manny Pacquiao.

Growing up very poor in his home province of Sarangani where at a very young age he had to fend for himself and his family, Pacquiao rose to become one of the highest-paid athletes of all time. His latest fight against Floyd Mayweather brought to his purse an unprecedented amount in excess of $150 Million.

He has extensive properties in the Philippines and recently purchased a mansion in Beverly Hills, California.  But all those properties and cash are all gone, thanks to Philippines’ chief tax collector Kim Henares.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue Commissioner has been on Pacquiao’s case for many years and has finally caught up with the boxer. Pacquiao’s properties and cash assets have been sequestered to fulfill his tax obligations to the Philippine government.

Pacquiao has not been seen in public since after his  shoulder surgery.

The Adobo Chronicles®  finally caught up with Pacquiao in Sarangani. Apparently, he is now living in a small studio unit converted from a relative’s garage.

While Pacquiao refused to talk to our reporter, he agreed to have his photograph taken in his tiny apartment enjoying his favorite Filipino food, chicken adobo.

OAKLAND, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – The Cavaliers and Warriors are tied two games apiece as they battle it out in Game 5 of the NBA Finals this Sunday at the Oakland Arena. Either team needs to win two games in the remainder of the best-of-seven series to clinch the championship title.

The Cavaliers have LeBron James. The Warriors have Manny Pacquiao.

Considered one of the Warriors’ two “good luck charms,” Pacquiao has been selected to sing the national anthem before Sunday’s game.

The other lucky charm is 10-year-old Filipina Nayah Damasen who has been singing the anthem at Warriors games since she was five.  Each time Damasen sings the national anthem, the Warriors win their game.

Pacquiao is known not only as a champion boxer, elected Philippine congressman, and basketball playing coach  but also a recording artist.  In fact, he recorded his own entrance music during his boxing bout with Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas last month.

Will Pacman give the Warriors their #3 win?

Stand up straight with hand on your breast for the Star-spangled Banner!

NBA FINALS: TWO FILIPINOS ARE GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS’ LUCKY CHARM

OAKLAND, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Every time Filipina singer Nayah Damasen sings the Star-spangled Banner at a basketball game featuring the Golden State Warriors, the California NBA team wins, as they did in Game #1 of the 2015 NBA finals held last night.

Damasen, 10, has been singing the U.S. national anthem for the Warriors’ games since age 5. The team considers her its ‘lucky charm.’

Well, it turns out this season saw not just one, but two lucky charms for the Warriors — both Filipinos.

The other charm is no other than Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, who last year, joined the Warriors in a practice session while they trained for this year’s NBA season.  Since then, things have been turning up roses for the Warriors, whose last stint in an NBA finals was in 1975, when they won the championship.

With two lucky charms, hopes are high that the Warriors will be this year’s NBA champions.

Hey, they might even ask both Damasen and Pacquiao (who himself is a recording artist) to sing the national anthem as a duet for one of the six (or three) remaining finals games against the Cleveland .
