SAN FRANCISCO’S GAY DISTRICT 8 ELECTIONS IS ONE TO WATCH

imageSan Francisco, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – The electoral contest for San Francisco’s District 8 county supervisor slut, err slot,  is pretty much decided in favor of incumbent Scott Wiener. Well, until today, when a write-in campaign was launched by Latina lesbian comedian Marga Gomez.

The campaign is  going viral and is gaining widespread support from the LGBT community which is not happy about Wiener’s policies and initiatives which many consider to be more pro-business than pro-LGBT.

Supporters of Gomez will hold a vigil rally from 6 to 9 pm on October 30 in front of Hechos restaurant on Market Street  while Wiener and Mayor Ed Lee host a party celebration on Castro and 18th Streets following a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the Castro Street Improvement Project.

Never has a write-in candidate won an election, but Gomez could make  this a Guinness World Record, and it will be a feather in the cap of the LGBT community.

Go vote on November 4.

IN SAN FRANCISCO’S GAY CASTRO DISTRICT, HALLOWEEN COMES A DAY EARLY

imageSan Francisco, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – For several years now, San Francisco has not seen a Halloween street celebration in the gay Castro district. The annual event has been shut down due to stabbing and other incidents that have marred the otherwise peaceful and fabulous showcase of LGBT tricks and treats. But San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and District 8 Supervisor Scott Wiener found a way to get around it.

On October 30, the eve of Halloween, Castro Street will be closed to make way for a made-up community celebration : the ribbon cutting of the Castro Street Improvement Project. Others are calling it a celebration of months and months of disruptive deconstruction and construction. The project involved the widening of the sidewalks, the narrowing of the street, the installation of typo-ridden memorial plaques and the much-ballyhooed painting of rainbow-colored crosswalks.

Inside sources however confirmed that the celebration is really meant to restore the Halloween street party in the Castro, albeit a day early. “Everyone knows the Castro queens will come in their Halloween costumes,” the sources said.

So it’s party time. Come celebrate the return of Halloween in the Castro.  But hush. We’re calling it  a ribbon-cutting. Booo!

OPRAH AND CHARICE COME OUT ON NATIONAL TELEVISION!

Charice, left, with godmother Oprah Winfrey

Los Angeles, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Queen of All Media Oprah Winfrey came out in support of Filipina singer Charice Pempengco when the latter reunited with the talk show host for an interview set to air October 19 on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).

Winfrey once touted Charice as “the most talented girl in the world.” The 22-year-old former Glee star came out in the Philippines last year as a lesbian.  The interview is her official ‘coming out’ on U.S. television.

During the interview, Winfrey, who is godmother to Charice, asked the Filipina singer if she “were thinking about transitioning to becoming a male.”

Charice was reportedly very nervous about doing the interview, but Winfrey calmed her down and said this was her “homecoming.”

So there you have it.  Oprah and Charice both coming out on national television.
