KRIS AQUINO’S INSTAGRAM FOLLOWERS JUST DROPPED TO ZERO

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – They were once very good friends — the Philippines’ Queen of All Media, Kris Aquino and the Teleserye Queen, Judy Ann Santos. Their friendship couldn’t have been more evident than in their back and forth Instagram posts, practically boosting each other’s ego.

But things have obviously changed because Kris has unfollowed Judy on Instagram, after the latter expressed her thoughts on the “Fallen 44,” the police officers who were killed in a misencounter with rebel forces in the island of Mindanao.

Judy joined millions of Filipinos who expressed outrage over President NoyNoy Aquino’s handling of the special forces operation designed to capture wanted rebel leaders, and his non-appearance in the arrival ceremonies in Manila of the bodies of the fallen officers. The president chose to attend the inauguration of a car manufacturing plant just miles from the capital. Judy cited U.S. President Barack Obama’s cancellation of foreign trips or other appoinments to attend arrival ceremonies for fallen American soldiers in war zones across the globe.

Blood is thicker than water, so Kris took the side of his president brother and warned her Instagram followers that they will be “unfollowed” if not outrightly deleted from her Instagram account if they sided with Judy or expressed any untoward comments regarding her brother’s handling of the police “massacre.”

Well, Judy seems to have the last laugh.  As of 6 p.m. Monday, local time, Kris’ followers dropped to zero from 1.4 Million, the biggest  drop in followers ever recorded on social media worldwide. It was she who was unfollowed.

It is a lesson learned for the presidential sister: politics and friendship (or fans) don’t mix. Especially if it involves a very unpopular president.

KRIS AQUINO’S ‘PRIVATE’ MEETING WITH POPE FRANCIS

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Like a kid in a candy store, presidential sister and TV personality Kris Aquino excitedly posted photos on her Instagram account of her ‘private’ meeting with visiting Pope Francis during the latter’s first stop in Malacañang, the Philippine presidential palace.

It wasn’t really a private meeting as hundreds of other dignitaries and guests with Malacañang connections were there as well, as seen in the photos.

She took the opportunity to show Pope  Francis the rosary that she claimed was given by the pontiff to her son Josh during a previous visit to the Vatican.

What Kris didn’t say in her Instagram post was that after she kissed the Pope’s ring and showed him the rosary, Francis said, “And who are you again?”

VICE GANDA’S INTERVIEW WITH PRESIDENT AQUINO WILL NOT AIR AFTER ALL

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The much-talked about one-on-one interview by Filipino comedian Vice Ganda with President NoyNoy Aquino will not be airing on January 4 as originally scheduled.

The reason? Vice Ganda’s entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), ‘Praybeyt Benjamin 2,’ did not win any award at Saturday’s closing ceremony. Aquino’s nephew, Bimby, son of presidential sister Kris Aquino, also stars in the film.

In the film, Private Benjamin “Benjie” Santos (Vice Ganda) has been promoted to colonel in the Philippine army and has made a name for himself as a modern day national hero. But when Benjie starts taking his reputation and his duties for granted, he is forced under the service of General Wilson Chua (Richard Yap) to try and thwart a terrorist plot to bomb areas around the Philippines. It just so happens that the only person who knows where the bombs are is a young boy named Bimby (Bimby Aquino).

The interview with President Aquino was arranged by Kris as a way to promote the film and gain favor with the film festival jurors.

Immediately after the announcement of the film festival awards — in which ‘Praybeyt Benjamin’ failed to garner a single award —  Malacañang (the presidential palace) announced that it was withdrawing permission to Vice Ganda to air the taped interview.

“We don’t want the Filipino TV viewers to be reminded about the poor performance of the film,” said Kris Aquino.

The taped interview was all about the film and how President Aquino feels about his actor nephew. No other topics or issues of national and international concern were discussed.

The big winner in the MMFF was the film about one of the Philippines’ great heroes, ‘Bonifacio.’
