Macau, China (The Adobo Chronicles) – American Chris Algieri failed miserably to unseat World Boxing Welterweight title holder Filipino Manny Pacquiao last night. Pacquiao won the fight with a unanimous decision.

In a press conference after the fight, Algieri blamed Arnold Schwarzenneger and Sykvester Stallone for jinxing his chances to grab the title from Pacquiao. The former governor of California and the actor who played Rocky Balboa in the Hollywood film of the same title were both in the audience at the Venetian Macau.

At some point during the fight, Stallone took a selfie picture with his smart phone using a flash.  Algieri said he was blinded by the flash and got distracted, leading to the first of several  knockdowns he suffered from Pacquiao.

“I appreciated that they both came to personally witness the fight,” Algieri said, “but their presence proved to be bad luck for me.”

WILL THE REAL MANNY PACQUIAO PLEASE STEP FORWARD?

Macau, China  (The Adobo Chronicles) – On November 22, boxing’s only eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao faces American boxer Chris Algieri for the WBO Welterweight title in Macau, China.

Algieri told reporters today that he is very confident he “will defeat the 5’2″-tall Filipino champion boxer.”

Wait. Manny Pacquiao is 5’7″ tall.

Apparently, the 5’10” tall Algieri met the wrong boxer during yesterday’s press conference to promote the upcoming title fight.

Algieri came an hour early to the press conference at the Venetian Macau and he came face to face with Thai boxer, flyweight Kwanpichit Onesongchaigym who fights in the undercard against two-time Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming.

If Shiming wins over Onesongchaigym, can he claim he defeated Pacquiao? Better still, if Algieri loses to Pacquiao, can he claim he was defeated by Onesongchaigym?

The world will be watching closely. On Pay-Per-View.

MANNY PACQUIAO IS AMONG TOP FIVE FILIPINO CONGRESSMEN

Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – World boxing champion Manny Pacquiao was honored by his fellow lawmakers today for being among the top five Filipino Congressmen.  Pacquiao is an elected member of the House of Representatives, representing his native Saranggani province.

House Speaker Sonny Belmonte praised Pacquiao, who is also a playing coach of the Kia Sorrentos basketball team in the country’s Professional Basketball Association (local counterpart of the NBA in the U.S.), for being in the top 5 leading congressmen – absentee congressmen, that is. The boxer ranked No. 5.  Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo who remains in hospital arrest in connection with  plunder charges filed against her, is in the No. 1 spot.

Belmonte said that Pacquiao has attended 31 and missed 38 sessions in his current congressional term. “He is to be commended for his attendance record given his very busy schedule as a professional boxer and basketball playing coach. He truly brings great honor to our country,” Belmonte added.

Pacquiao is being investigated by the Philippines’ Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for tax evasion in connection with his earnings from his championship boxing fights in the U.S., to which he has said, “this is purely a witch hunt by BIR Commissional Kim Henares who seems to enjoy going after celebrities like me.”
