RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (The Adobo Chronicles) – Brazil is among the elite circle of countries that have won all major international beauty contests, not once but many times.
Next year, Brazil will not be sending a representative to the Miss Universe Pageant.
The reason?
Carolina Toledo, the potential Miss Brazil (who is currently the title holder for Miss Amazonas), was stripped of her crown. Literally. By first runner-up Sheislane Hayalla.
At pageant finals last night, the top contenders stayed true to tradition by holding hands in an apparent show of affection as judges announced the name of Miss Amazonas 2015. Hayalla even managed to congratulate lucky lady Toledo and applaud her after hearing she had come second.
But Hayalla disappeared into the background to be consoled by other contenders as organisers surrounded the 20-year-old beauty queen to put her winner’s sash over her head. Seconds later, Hayalla saw red and yanked her rival’s crown off her head as audience members captured the amazing scenes on camera.
Other participants looked on in horror as the wannabe Miss ripped out the tiara, threw it to the ground, pointed an accusing finger at her adversary and insulted her before storming off stage. “Toledo doesn’t deserve the crown. She bought her way to the title,” Hayalla told reporters.
That’s why we love beauty pageants. Although we won’t see a Miss Brazil in next year’s Miss Universe pageant, we are happy that it will increase the chances of Miss Philippines to win her country’s third Miss Universe crown.
