WILL THE REAL DEMOCRATIC VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE PLEASE STEP FORWARD?

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (The Adobo Chronicles) – Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton said she would seriously consider making Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro her running mate if she wins her party’s nomination.

Clinton and the other Democrats in the November 2016 race for the White House have pushed hard for support among Hispanics, a fast-growing and critical voting bloc that has moved toward Democrats in recent elections as Republicans have stymied comprehensive immigration reform in Congress and disparaged Mexican immigrants on the campaign trail.

“I am going to look really hard at him for anything, because that’s how good he is,” Clinton said at a U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce meeting in San Antonio, Texas, when asked if Castro might be her vice presidential pick.

Clinton said she was “thrilled” to win the backing of Castro, a former mayor of San Antonio. Castro’s twin brother Joaquin, a U.S. congressman, already endorsed Clinton and campaigned with her in Nevada.

Which begs the question, how will voters know which one of the twins is running for vice president?

GOP campaign strategists have accused Clinton of trying to circumvent campaign rules by choosing a candidate who has an identical twin.   They suspect that either of the brothers will be campaigning as the VP candidate, creating a possible scenario where one would be appearing in California and the other in New Hampshire at exactly the same time! “That puts the GOP at a campaign disadvantage,” they said.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Yesterday, we reported that CNN has offered to host the first-ever televised Philippine presidential debate, to be moderated by star anchor Anderson Cooper.

Not wanting to be be outdone, FOX News has proposed to host a televised debate among the potential First Ladies (and Gents).  It has sent an invitation to Korina Sanchez, wife of Mar Roxas; Elenita Binay, wife of Vice President Jejomar Binay; Narciso Santiago, husband of Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago; and Neil Llamanzares, husband of Senator Grace Poe.

FOX News said that it was important to hear from the potential First Ladies and Gents because of the important role that they play in national and international affairs.

Megyn Kelly will moderate the debate, but former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos and former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will lead a panel of debate questioners.

The FOX News debate will be simultaneously aired on the ABS-CBN and GMA networks.

MAKATI CITY, Philippines  (The Adobo Chronicles) –  There is a lot of speculation that Vice President Jejomar Binay will eventually withdraw from the 2016 Philippine presidential race because of dwindling ratings as well as graft charges he could be facing as recommended by the  Office of the Ombudsman.

In order to maintain the Binay political dynasty, Senator Nancy Binay is reportedly ready to replace her dad as candidate for president should he decide to withdraw from the race.

Speaking of political dynasty, now that the Vice President’s son, JunJun has been dismissed from the service as mayor of Makati City, — also because of graft charges — another Binay daughter, Abigail, said earlier that she is prepared to run for mayor in place of her brother.  Abigail is currently serving as an elected representative in Congress, and will soon be termed out.

To keep everything within the family circle, Abigail’s husband, Luis Campos,  will run to replace her on her Congressional seat.

And what does Elenita (the Vice President’s wife and former Makati mayor) think of all this? “Politics is in our blood. The more Binays in politics, the better,” she told reporters.
