Entire Philippines Proud Of EJ Obiena, PhilStar Is Not!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Filipino pride!

The entire Philippines is celebrating Filipino athlete EJ Obiena after he broke the glass ceiling — the 6-meter elite threshold of the world’s greatest pole vaulters.

But not The Philippine Star. They seem to have a beef with Obiena.

Case in point: The Star, instead of congratulating Obiena and celebrating with Filipinos, wrote a nega article about the athlete, all but dousing his extraordinary feat with cold water.

Shame on PhilStar!

Photo Correction!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Every once in a while, we get it wrong.

The Adobo Chronicles erroneously used the photo of TV actress and host Kim Chiu in a quote card on a recent statement from ex-Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo.

Our interns thought the quote sounded very much like some of the previous statements attributed to the actress, so they decided to use Chiu’s photo.

We have, since then, made the photo correction.

Our apologies to both women!

The Sour-Graping Of Maria Resssa

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Congratulations are in order for Rappler CEO Maria Ressa. Her news brand has now reached the Hall of Fame.

For the fourth straight year, Rappler was named the least-trusted news brand in the Philippines in the annual Digital News Report by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford University.

But the Nobel Laureate is not happy about the recognition she has received. She is fighting back.

Commenting on the Reuters report, Ressa says the study puts journalists and independent outlets at risk. She says the research is flawed.

Well, Ressa can’t have it all. She has her flaws, and sour-graping won’t help her and Rappler hold the line.

The people have spoken. Year after year.

Your best source of up-to-date, unbelievable news.
