Egg Mania In America!

Ah, Filipinos, the masters of drama and blame-shifting! Here we are again, up in arms over the price of rice, tomatoes, and chili. “Presyo ng bigas? Kasalanan ni BBM!” goes the rallying cry, as if the man personally went to the palengke and overpriced your sinigang essentials.

Meanwhile, across the Pacific in the land of milk and honey — America—a dozen eggs cost a staggering $4 (that’s P250, kabayan!). Yet, not a single Karen is outside the White House screaming “Biden, you monster!” or “Trump, you egg-saboteur!”

Maybe it’s time we embrace our unique Pinoy spirit: blame the president for everything! Traffic? BBM. Late delivery ng Shopee? BBM. Your ex moving on? Definitely BBM. But hey, at least in the Philippines, we have drama to pair with overpriced itlog. Over there, they just have overpriced eggs and silence—where’s the fun in that?

For Vilma Santos The Politician: “Lights, Camera, Action!” (Video)

In the grand theater of politics, some actors never truly leave the stage.

Take, for instance, actress-turned-politician Vilma Santos who ensures the cameras are rolling before she engages with a project, appearing deeply interested. It’s as if the spotlight is her lifeline, and without it, the performance just wouldn’t be the same. One might wonder if her policy discussions come with a director’s cut or if her campaign speeches have a hidden blooper reel.

Perhaps her political strategy meetings are more about hitting the right marks than making a mark. After all, in this blend of drama and democracy, the lines between acting and action often blur, leaving us to question: is it politics as performance, or performance as politics?
