FORGET DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME, WISCONSIN REPUBLICANS PROPOSE WEEKEND SAVING TIME!

MADISON, Wisconsin (The Adobo Chronicles) – Forget about Daylight Saving Time. The debate about whether Americans should wake up one hour early or one hour later was so yesterday! If the Republicans have their way, they’d rather implement ‘Weekend Saving Time.’ Or WST.

Say what?

It means your entire weekend will disappear.

Wisconsin state Sen. Glenn Grothman (R) wants to roll back one of the state’s progressive labor laws, arguing that workers should be allowed to work without a day off if they so choose.

“Right now in Wisconsin, you’re not supposed to work seven days in a row, which is a little ridiculous because all sorts of people want to work seven days a week,” he told The Huffington Post in an interview.

Wisconsin is one of the few states in the nation where businesses “must provide employees with at least one period consisting of 24 consecutive hours of rest in each calendar week.” This doesn’t mean that workers get to take off once every seven days; an employee could work for up to 12 consecutive days “if the days of rest fall on the first and last days of the 2 week period.”

Grothman said he finds this law “a little goofy,” and he argued that rolling it back is a matter of “freedom.”

He’s proposing legislation that “would allow an employee to voluntarily choose to work without one day of rest in seven,” according to an email sent by his office to other state lawmakers on Friday. State Rep. Mark Born (R) is leading the legislation in the state Assembly.

Newly-declared presidential candidate Senator Ted Cruz (R, Texas) actually likes the idea. Very much.

So there you have it, be prepared to roll back your weekend. Or roll it forward? Nah. How about give it up forever?

TED CRUZ TO DONALD TRUMP: ‘I WAS BORN IN NORTH AMERICA, SO I’M AMERICAN!’

WASHINGTON, D.C.(The Adobo Chronicles) – It’s Déjà vu! The man who challenged Barack Obama’s citizenship is now questioning whether Republican Senator Ted Cruz is qualified to run for president.

The junior senator from Texas announced today that he was seeking the Republican nomination for president in the 2016 elections — the first major candidate to do so.

Business mogul Donald Trump, who makes no secret about his intention to run for president in 2016, said today that Cruz, who was born in Canada, is not eligible to run for president because he wasn’t born in the United States.

“I don’t even need to see his birth certificate,” Trump said, ” since he has admitted that he was born in Canada.”

Responding to Trump’s pronouncement, Cruz countered by saying, “Mr. Trump must not know his geography.  Yes, I was born in Canada which is in North America.  Ergo, I am American and very well qualified to run for U.S. president.”

“On the other hand,” the Texas senator said, “I haven’t seen Mr. Trump’s birth certificate. He doesn’t look American to me. I think he’s been dyeing his weird hair blonde, and wearing colored contacts to look American.”

“Don’t show me your money; show me your birth certificate,” Cruz challenged Trump.

PHILIPPINES: TWO MAYORS END STANDOFF IN MAKATI CITY

CaptureMAKATI CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Will the real mayor of Makati City please step forward?

Well, there’s actually two mayors right now – Incumbent Mayor Junjun Binay and Vice Mayor Romulo Peña, each claiming to be the legitimate head of the Philippines’ richest city.

It all started when the Philippine Ombudsman issued an order suspending Binay for six months in connection with the alleged overpricing of Makati City Hall Building II.

Soon after the order was served on Binay, Vice Mayor Peña was sworn into office as the acting mayor.

Binay claimed that he was still in charge of the city despite the Ombudsman’s order suspending him for six months. He said that the Court of Appeals granted his request for a temporary restraining order which had effectively stayed his suspension.

Not so, claimed the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales and Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, noting that the TRO was moot and academic because Peña had been sworn in as acting mayor on March 16 hours before the TRO was issued.

Since the suspension order was issued, Binay has been camping out in his office at the Makati City Hall, backed by supporters who were fed take out fried chicken and spaghetti (presumably from Jollibee).  Peña, who claims he is the acting mayor since he took oath when the suspension order was served on Binay, has been holding office at the old City Hall building nearby.

Finally, both “mayors” announced they have come to an agreement to end the week-long standoff.

“We have decided that both of us can be mayor,” Binay said. “We have agreed to divide Makati City into two jurisdictions — east and west of the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA). EDSA is Metro Manila’s main thoroughfare that runs through many cities in the metropolis, including Makati.

I will be mayor of the East side and Peña will be mayor of the West side.”

All’s well that ends well.
