Rumor: ABS-CBN To Fire Karen Davila

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – She had all the good intentions in trying to pin down Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, but the verdict is in: Karen Davila failed miserably.

The interview with Panelo on the subject of the non-renewal of the media franchise of her employer ABS-CBN ended up a big embarassment for Davila and her network.

And ABS-CBN is not taking it lightly. The network is rumored to be considering firing Davila and replacing her with DJ Chacha.

If Duterte Is Ousted, Robredo Says She’ll Go On Self-Exile

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) — Vice President Leni Robredo on Thursday released a disclaimer that while she supports an upcoming mobilization this weekend, she is not part of calls to oust President Rodrigo Duterte from his post.

(There are planned rallies this weekend to commemorate the EDSA People Power that led to the  ouster of Ferdinand E. Marcos.)

In speaking with The Adobo Chronicles, Robredo said that in the (unlikely) event that the oust Duterte movement succeeds — she would go on self-exile to Hawaii and will not accept the position of President.

She however said that should a snap election be called  to determine Duterte’s successor, she will file her candidacy for President. “I want to earn the right to lead the Filipino people, and not have the presidency handed to me on a silver platter,” she added.

Post VFA: PH Government Offers Free Therapy Conference In San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision to terminate the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) between the Philippines and the United States has caused a big stir in the political and military circles.

VFA allowed U.S. military and other personnel to enter the Philippines even without a permit or visa.

Realizing the VFA termination has upset a lot of people — Americans and Filipinos alike — the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco is offering a free conference as a means of therapy to help attendees cope with the change.

A spokesperson for the Consulate told The Adobo Chronicles that the conference will feature pray-overs, psychological and grief counseling, zumba and cooking classes, and a panel of experts that will discuss the implications of the VFA termination.

The conference, called VFO Con — or Visiting Forces Over Conference will be held this weekend at the Holiday Inn in South San Francisco.
