RAPPLER DIDN’T QUITE GET COURT’S DECISION TO DENY MARIA RESSA’S PLEA FOR U.S. TRAVEL

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Online news source Rappler seems to be confused about the difference between a court “ruling” and “opinion.”

While almost all news media outlets have reported that the Court of Tax Appeals ruled to deny Maria Ressa’s plea to travel to the U.S., Rappler reported that the Court “ruled” that conviction is not a reason to bar travel,” giving the impression that their CEO can now travel to the Land of the Free and the Brave.

But the bottom line is that the Court ruled to deny Ressa’ plea, regardless of its “opinion” that conviction is no reason to ban travel by the convicted.

Ressa was convicted of cyber libel. She is appealing her conviction.

FACEBOOK POISED TO BUY OUT RAPPLER

MENLO PARK, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Jose Bureau) – Even as 48 states federal regulators have filed lawsuits against Facebook accusing the social media giant of illegally crushing competition by buying out its rivals, Mark Zuckerberg told The Adobo Chronicles that his company is planning on acquiring Rappler.

This announcement is an apparent move by Zuckerberg to get back at Rappler CEO Maria Ressa who, in the past, had called out Facebook for its “greed,” and to “clean up the toxic waste” on its platform.

Because foreigners are not allowed under Philippine law to own and operate media in the country, Zuckerberg said all he wants to do is “purchase Rappler and trash it into oblivion.”

It’s the end for the Ressa era!

MAR-A-LAGO RESORT, Florida (The Adobo Chronicles, Miami Bureau) – Donald Trump is not taking his loss in the 2020 Presidential elections sitting down. He is planning a comeback — in 2022.

Trump campaign sources told The Adobo Chronicles that the outgoing President is abandoning his plan to run again in the 2024 Presidential elections. Instead, he is running for Florida governor on November 8, 2022.

What prompted Trump’s change of heart is his unwillingness to suffer yet another defeat. He is confident that he will win by a landslide if he runs for governor in 2022 — election fraud or no election fraud.

Trump defeated Joe Biden in the state of Florida in last November’s elections, 51 to 47 percent.

The Trump family is reportedly busy preparing to move to their new permanent residence at the Mar-a-Lago Resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

Incumbent Florida Governor Ron DiSantis, a Republican, is not happy about Trump’s decision because it would make him a one-term governor.
