VP Robredo Issues Statement On Pacquiao Loss

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – Just hours after Manny Pacquiao’s devastating loss to Yordenis Ugás in their title fight in Las Vegas, Nevada, Vice President Leni Robredo issued the following statement:

”Labis kong ikinalulungkot ang pagkatalo ni Senator Pacquiao sa laban niya ngayong araw na ito kay Yordenis Ugas. Alam kong ginawa niya lahat ng kanyang makakaya para bigyan ang ating bansa ng karangalan. Pero ganyan talaga ang buhay. You win some, you lose some.”

(That was a mouthful from Robredo for The Adobo Chronicles to translate. For non-Tagalog speaking readers, please contact one of your Filipino friends for the translation. They will be more than happy to oblige!)

Manny Pacquiao To Seek Asylum In Spain

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (Tbe Adobo Chronicles, Las Vegas Bureau) – Fearing for his well-being and the possible demise of his political career in the Philippines, boxing champ and Senator Manny Pacquiao revealed that he will seek asylum in Spain after his fight with Yordenis Ugás.

Pacquiao’s intention to run for President in 2022 is no secret, but he has had a falling out with Rodrigo Duterte and the ruling party, PDP-Laban.

Before he left the Philippines last month, Pacquiao criticized the Administration for what he called worse corruption in government. While in absentia, he was booted out as President of the party.

He chose Spain because of the relative ease in seeking residency in the country, especially for nationals whose countries has had a history with Spain. The Philippines was a colony of Spain for three centuries.

Giving a hint to reporters about his plan yesterday, Pacquiao said he is half-Spanish.

Here is Pacquiao in his own words.

OVP “Flogged” By COA Three Years In A Row!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In his Talk to the People address this week, President Rodrigo Duterte chided the Commission on Audit (COA) for “flogging” instead of “flagging” his Department of Health in an audit report released recently

Well, it looks like the Office of the Vice President (OVP) has also been flogged by COA .

Despite proud statements from OVP that it has received the “highest” audit ratings by COA for three years in a row now, documents show that OVP was far from flawless. For the same three years, COA has noted deficiencies and inefficiencies in he way OVP manages its finances and projects. (Actually, COA did not give a “highest rating” to OVP. Rather, an “unqualified opinion” which does not really mean everything was pitch perfect.)

Moral of the story: Do not put words in COA’s mouth.
