San Diego Padres To Gay Men’s Chorus: “Sorry, We Will Change Our Name To Madres”

image.jpegSAN DIEGO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – Claiming it was a mistake inside the audio control room, the San Diego Padres today apologized to the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus (SDGMC) for the embarrassing moment at Petco Park this weekend.

Members of the SDGMC took the field at Petco Park to sing the national anthem. Instead of their voices, fans of the Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers heard a recorded voice of a woman singing the anthem, and when the group stepped off the field at the end of the song it was to taunts such as, “You sing like a girl,” according to a statement on the SDGMC Facebook page.

The chorus called for Major Leage Baseball to investigate the incident as a possible anti-gray discrimination or hate crime.

To show its sincerity in feeling very sorry about the incident and that it truly empathizes with the chorus members, owners of the San Diego Padres announced that the team will immediately change its name to “Madres.”

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – With only 23 days to go before the Philippine presidential elections, the word war has intensified between Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas. Among other things, Duterte has called Roxas “gay,” while Roxas says Duterte is “all talk.”

Well, the time for debate is over.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) announced today that it will hold a boxing match between the two presidential candidates to settle once and for all who is most fit to become Commander-in-Chief.

The match will be held at the Philippine Arena on May 2, just a week before the elections.  May 2 also happens to be the one-year anniversary of the “Fight of the Century” between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Meayweather.  We all know who lost that fight.

Ironically, Pacquiao, who is running for senator, has agreed to be the referee for the Roxas-Duterte match.

Originally, the COMELEC wanted to schedule an underfight between the two female presidential candidates, Senators Grace Poe and Miriam Defensor-Santiago, but both declined.  They said they’d rather watch Roxas and Duterte go for the knockout.

CNN Philippines will broadcast the boxing match live starting at 7pm.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – After Manny Pacquiao’s decisive win over American Timothy Bradley in last Saturday’s welterweight championship match, the Filipino icon and congressman announced his decision to retire from boxing.

Known in his home country as ‘pambansang kamao’ (national fist), Pacquiao sat down with The Adobo Chronicles in an exclusive interview at his penthouse suite at the MGM Grand Hotel.

Here’s the trasncript of the interview:

AC: Is your decision to retire from boxing final?

Pacquiao: That’s my decision, but I don’t know what it is like to be retired.

AC: So you’re saying you may come back to the boxing ring?

Pacquiao: If it’s the will of God, then I have no choice.

AC: How soon will you decide whether or not to come out of retirement?

Pacquiao: Let’s see what happens after the May 9 elections.

AC:  Meaning?

Pacquiao: If I win as a senator, I will probably not come back to boxing.

AC: And if you lose?

Pacquiao: I may come back to the ring, who knows.

AC : Why announce your retirement at all, when you’re not really sure?

Pacquiao: Well, President Aquino’s sister, Kris, did the same thing.  How many times did she say that she was quitting show business?  But she keeps on coming back. If Kris can do it, why can’t Pacquiao do it?

AC:  True.
