De Lima Wants To Attend Senate Hearing On Kian In Support Of Fiscal Darwin Cañete

IMG_3964MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Detained Senator Leila De Lima is frustrated that the Supreme Court has not acted on her petition to be allowed to attend yesterday’s and future Senate hearings on the police killing of Kian de los Santos.

Sources close to the Supreme Court said that De Lima’s argument of “fulfilling her duties as a Senator” and that she is not a flight risk were not convincing enough for the Supremes.

But a new opportunity has surfaced and this might just be the key for the high court to give the senator permission to personally attend future hearings.

A copy of a Certificate of Commendation for Atty. Darwin Cañete has been making the rounds on social media.  The fiscal was among the witnesses/resource persons invited to yesterday’s hearing.

The commendation was signed by no less than De Lima when she was justice secretary.

The senator says she should be allowed to be physically present at the Senate Hearing to authenticate her signature on the commendation.

Nice try, senator!

Rappler’s Pia Ranada Appointed Assistant Secretary of PCOO

IMG_3768.JPGMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Yesterday, The Adobo Chronicles reported that Rappler CEO Maria Ressa fired star reporter Pia Ranada after the latter wrote a story on the alleged appointment of Nikki Prieto-Teodoro as the new Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.  Rappler quickly retracted the story because it was fake and unconfirmed.

But no worries, Ranada will not be unemployed.  She has just been appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as a second Assistant Secretarty of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).  Ranada will be working closely with ASEC Mocha Uson.

Despite her differences with President Duterte, PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar told The Adobo Chronicles that Ranada will be a great assset to the Duterte administration because of her penchant for gossip and fake news.

“Her expertise will counter all the fake news being spread by anti-Duterte news media both here and abroad,” Andanar said.

Well, all’s well that ends well!

Rappler CEO Maria Ressa Fires Star Reporter Pia Ranada

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In keeping with Rappler’s high standards of truth and credibility, CEO Maria Ressa has fired the online news source’s star reporter, Pia Ranada.

The pink slip was handed to Ranada after Rappler published a report in which the Malacañang reporter said that President Duterte was appointing Nikki Prieto-Teodoro as Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Developmment (DSWD).

Teodoro was seen in Malacañang just a day after the Commission on Appointments rejected the appointment of Judy Taguiwalo.

IMG_3747It appears that Teodoro was at the presidential palace to present a donation to the Armed Forces of the Philippines.  Ranada assumed that her appearance at the palace had something to do with a potential appointment to the DSWD post.

Ranada has had awkward exchanges with Duterte during the president’s press conferences and ambush interviews.

In firing Ranada, Ressa said that it was her duty to protect the reputation of Rappler and cannot allow any of its reporters to be feeding the online news source with fake news.

The Adobo Chronicles is still verifying whether the firing of Ranada is yet another fake news from Rappler.
