New Year’s Resolutions Of Famous People In The Philippines

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) –  There is no dearth of people making their New Year’s resolutions.  The rich and famous are no exception.

The Adobo Chronicles reached out to the Philippines’ top politicians and celebrities and asked them  what they hope to achieve in 2019, the Year of the Pig:

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte: To reduce his cussing in public to only once a month.

Leni Robredo: Instead of a salute, promise to put her right hand over her chest whenever she appears in a public ceremony at the Luneta.

Vice Ganda: To explore a 2022 Vice Presidential candidacy. After all, she already has the name recall and the resibo at the takilya (receipts at the box office) to back it up.

Senator Antonio Trillanes: Reclusion Perpetua in the dog house.

Senator Franklin Drilon: To break away from the pig pen.  It’s his year to shine and keep wide awake.

Maria Ressa: To plead guilty to tax evasion charges and bravely face incarceration.  That would give her more reason to cry “persecution.”

Raissa Robles:  To finish her new book, “Never to Never Again.”

Jover Laurio: To rename her blog, “Magandang Pinay Ako.”

Bong Revilla: To produce a new movie for the next Metro Manila Film Festival.  The title: “Free at last, Free at last. Thank God Almighty I’m Free at last!” (Based on the life of Martin Luther King)

Mar Roxas: To have a selfie carrying a sack of privately-imported rice. This would boost his Senatorial bid.

Senator Grace Poe: To purchase a new hearing aid.  In aid of legislation.

Senator Bam Aquino: To start debiting all his credit claims about his accomplishments.

Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP): To require a mandatory entrance fee at all churches nationwide on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation.

Secretary Martin Andanar: To finally come out of his man cave.

Leila de Lima: To change her banana preference from saging na saba to señorita.

Senator Kiko Pangilinan: To produce and star in a new movie with wife Sharon Cuneta. This would boost his sagging eye bags. And popularity.

The Adobo Chronicles: We don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions.  We’ll just keep on doing what we’re doing.  This will keep Rappler and Maria Ressa busy.

Honeylet Avanceña Breaks Silence Over Duterte Comment On Molesting Maid

847A52E0-55EC-4255-B1D2-ADDA1D5687E7DAVAO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is known for his off the cuff comments about sensitive issues, including rape.

In a recent comment, Duterte admitted that he had molested the family maid when he was a teenager.

The admission didn’t sit well with Rappler CEO Maria Ressa who had previously revealed that she has been receiving rape threats.  The Filipina women’s group GABRIELA is demanding the President’s resignation. Even die-hard Duterte supporters have taken to social media to express their indignation over the comment.

Today, Duterte’s partner, Honeylet Avanceña has broken her silence over the comment.

The Adobo Chronicles asked Ms. Avanceña about her reaction to Duterte’s revelation, and with obvious conviction and resolve, she simply said: “Digong will be outside the kulambo starting tonight.’

For our readers who are not familiar with the Filipino expression about “outside the kulambo,” it simply means one will not be allowed to sleep in the same bed.

Pamatong

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) –  The Internet is abuzz with rumors that Ely Pamatong is about to set foot in Malacañang to forcibly take over the presidency from Rodrigo Duterte.

Pamatong, a disbarred Filipino lawyer, is a perennial candidate in Philippine elections who was declared a nuisance candidate twice for his presidential bid in 2004 and 2010. More recently, he filed a quo warranto petition before the Supreme Court, in June 2018. He seeks to oust Duterte, on the grounds that his certificate of candidacy in the 2016 presidential elections was illegal.

Upon hearing of his takever plan, Opposition Senators Bam Aquino, Kiko Pangilinan, Risa Hontiveros ,Antonio Trillanes  and Franklin Drilon offered full support for Pamatong.  They said that this was their best and only chance to oust Duterte and regain political power.

Incarcerated Senator Leila De Lima also expressed a similar sentiment, adding that she wouldn’t mind being appointed Pamatong’s Vice President.

De Lima’s statement, however, didn’t sit well with Leni Robredo who claims she is the duly-elected Vice President.  The Office of the Vice President (OVP) told The Adobo Chronicles that Robredo will only endorse Pamatong’s bid to be President if he promised it will only be transitional. “Eventually, once Pamatong has taken over the Presidency, Robredo wants to be officially declared the new President,” the OVP said.
