Adobo Chronicles Fact-Checks Rappler’s Story On ”Stolen” MOA Globe

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In its bid to be the first to report on a still developing, unconfirmed story, Rappler reported that the globe at the SM Mall of Asia was stolen. That fueled a lot of speculation and amazement on how such a giant structure could be lifted out of its location. Perhaps by helicopter or a high-towering crane?

Well it turns out the globe wasn’t stolen but was just due for maintenance.

Our verdict on Rappler’s report? FAKE NEWS.

The World Lights Up In Red And Green To Celebrate Marcos-Duterte Tandem!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Filipinos describe it as a match made in heaven — the “son of a dictator” and ”daughter of the Punisher” uniting to run as President and Vice President, respectively, of their country in the coming 2022 elections.

The filing of the certificate of candidacy by Davao City Mayor and Presidential daughter Sara Duterte yesterday sent people celebrating in the streets and on social media, with posts blazoned with the red and green colors (red associated with Marcos and green associated with Duterte). On the other hand, the much-awaited announcement sent hundreds if not thousands of yellows and pinks (colors associated with the Opposition) to Emergency Rooms for elevated high blood pressure and panic attacks.

Many believe that Bongbong Marcos as President and Sara Duterte as VP would put the country on the road to becoming great again — led by a tiger and an eagle.

The Philippines was not alone in this celebratory mood. Famous buildings and monuments across the globe joined in the frenzy, lighting up with the colors of red and green.

Is this now the period of unification in the Philippines, and in the world?

Maria Ressa To Seek Political Asylum In The U.S.?

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Never mind that she is a U.S. citizen. Rappler CEO and Nobel Peace Prize awardee Maria Ressa is reportedly filing for political asylum in the United States. She left Manila on November 2.

Sources tell The Adobo Chronicles that seeking political asylum is Ressa’s way of escaping a possible jail term if the courts confirm her previous lower court conviction for cyber libel filed by a private individual. Her conviction is under appeal.

Ressa could also escape possible conviction for tax evasion charges she is facing.

Since Rodrigo Duterte assumed the Presidency, Ressa and her online outfit have been very critical of the government, bloating numbers of extra-judicial killings in connection with the drug war. She has also accused the government of weaponizing the law to curtail her press freedom. In addition, she has maintained that social media has ambushed the journalists’ role in reporting the news. She has said many times that it was time ”to take back the Internet.”

We asked our sources what was the turning point in Ressa’s decision to seek asylum, and they said that it was the fact that her own countrymen think she does not deserve the Nobel prize. An online petition that gathered close to 150,000 signatures before it was taken down by change.org, is asking that she be stripped of the Nobel prize. A second petition has gathered over 30,000 signatures as of press time.

A random street survey we conducted shows that majority of Filipinos support her seeking political asylum in the U.S. ”Good riddance,” said many.
