A Blackmailer Named Rowena!

CEBU CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Cebu Bureau) – A ‘blackmailer’ is defined as a person who demands money or another benefit from someone in return for not revealing compromising or damaging information about them.

A certain Dr. Rowena Burden of Cebu City seems to fit right into that definition. And she, herself, has provided the Exhibit A — not once but twice — on her own social media account.

First she has demanded for the resignation of Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia for reasons she has narrated on her Facebook posts. (The Adobo Chronicles is not a gossip blog, so we we chose not to detail Burden’s allegations here.)

Then, following it up, she has now threatened President Bongbong Marcos that she will reveal the things she did to ensure his victory in the last presidential elections. The threat to Marcos was because of what she described as the president’s support for the Garcia family.

She has set September 30 as the “deadline” for the response of Garcia and Marcos — the date she says she plans to do a press conference to claim her moment in the spotlight.

As far as we know, medical doctors have a professional and ethical duty to maintain client confidentiality at all times. So it seems her demeanor in her issue with the Garcias seems to put into question if she even maintains professionalism and ethics in her chosen profession.

Incidentally, Dr. Burden has had previous issues with Cebu, in connection with the 2009 Miss Cebu Pageant in which her daughter was second runner-up. At that time she had also demanded for the resignation of pageant organizers.

“Quotation Marks” The Most Abused Special Character!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The quotation marks (open and close quotations) are the most abused special characters in news and social media — all in the name of modern graphics and quote cards.

The Adobo Chronicles collated examples of the disgusting abuse of these traditional marks to indicate a direct quote from someone.

Many media outlets and graphic designers have all but omitted the closing quotation mark, as if they want to add more to quoted statement.

Others have placed the quotation mark on photos instead of text. Still others have placed the quotation marks in the perimeter of boxes or the circumference of circles.

But the winner in all this abuse of use is TV 5 which took out all the text in their quotation marks!

R.I.P., quotation marks!
