Manila Bishop: Catholic Voters Survey Was Rigged!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo today said the result of a survey showing that Catholic voters prefer majority of the administration senate bets in the May 13 midterm polls was rigged.

It will be recalled that the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), in a pastoral statement entitled “Seek the Common Good”, said the midterm polls is “crucial” especially today when checks and balances in government are being undermined. The bishops encouraged voters to be very discerning in their votes.

But the result of the voter survey surprised the prelates. It showed that seven of the Top 12 senatorial bets preferred by Catholic voters were from the administration’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago. They are reelectionists Sonny Angara, Cynthia Villar, former senator Pia Cayetano, Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Bong Go, Koko Pimentel III and Francis Tolentino.

This goes in contrast with the 10 senate aspirants pushed by the lay movement, People’s Choice Movement (PCM), which mostly include candidates from the opposition’s Otso Diretso namely; Gary Alejano, Chel Diokno, Florin Hilbay, Romy Macalintal, Samira Gutoc, Erin Tañada, Bam Aquino, and Mar Roxas.

”I am sure the voter survey result was manipulated,” Pabillo told The Adobo Chronicles. “I expected all senatorial bets under the Opposition coalition Otso Diretso to do very well.”

The survey was conducted by the Catholic Church-owned Radio Veritas.

Is the CBCP losing its clout among its own flock?

Pope Francis On Feminism, ‘Babae Ako’ Movement

THE VATICAN (The Adobo Chronicls, Rome Bureau) – Pope Francis was quoted today as saying that feminism is “machismo with a skirt.”

The Pontiff’s comment didn’t sit well with Mae Paner, a.k.a. Juana Change who was among the poster girls in the “Babae Ako” movement launched last year.

According to Wikipedia:

The Babae Ako movement (lit. I’m a Woman movement; stylized as #BabaeAko) is a women’s rights movement in the Philippines. It was launched on May 20, 2018 as a social media campaign when twelve women of various political persuasions got together to launch a public campaign calling out what they perceived as anti-women remarks made by President Duterte. The social media campaign eventually took the form of live protests later held under the movement. The founders of the movement were included among the “25 Most Influential People on the Internet in 2018” list by Time Magazine.

When informed about Paner’s displeasure and shown photos of the Philippine movement, Pope Francis, through an interpreter, said that based on the photos he’s seen, the “Babae Ako” movement should be renamed “Mukhang Lalake Kami” movement.

Lesson Learned From Maria Ressa: CBCP Claims Religious Persecution In Arrest Of Pedophile Catholic Priest

MANILA, Philippines  (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Rappler CEO Maria Ressa is either a good influence or a bad influence, depending on how you look at it.

Taking its cue from Ressa, who claimed that her arrests for tax evasion and cyber libel are nothing but political persecution, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) today said the recent arrest of Father Kenneth Hendricks speaks of religious persecution.

Hendricks, 77, is an American Catholic priest accused of molesting more than 50 people in the province of Biliran. He was first arrested in December 2018 by virtue of an arrest warrant by United States judge Stephanie Bowman

According to the police, more than 50 people have allegedly been molested by Hendricks since he arrived in the Philippines in 1968. He was ordained as a Franciscan priest and worked in Biliran in a village chapel in the town of Naval.

CBCP appealed to the news media both here and abroad to rally behind Hendricks like they did for   “Ressa claims suppression of Press Freedom, we claim suppression of Religious Freedom,” a CBCP spokesperson told The Adobo Chronicles.

It seems that the Rule of Law in the Philippines is all but a myth, thanks to Ressa and CBCP.
