Catholic Bishops Slam New Miss Grand Philippines For Mimicking The Black Nazarene’s Hair

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – First, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCB) slammed the use of the image of Jesus Christ as costume in a performance by a drag queen. The bishops are calling it blasphemous.

Now, CBCP is after the new Miss Grand Philippines 2023 Nikki De Moura, saying it was offensive to Catholics for the beauty queen to mimic the curly hair of the revered Black Nazarene.

“She could easily have worn a hairstyle as straight and natural as Mocha Uson’s,” one Manila-based bishop said.

Filipino Catholic Bishops Say Using “OMG” In Texts And Socmed Post Is Blasphemous

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Just hours after condemning the use of the image of Jesus Christ as a costume, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) issued another statement on the use of “OMG” in texts and social media posts.

CBCP had slammed the viral video of a drag queen dressed as the Black Nazarene while singing along to a remix of “Ama Namin” (The Lord’s Prayer).

Today, CBCP warned Filipinos that using OMG (Oh My God) to express surprise or disappointment is also blasphemous.

“Thou shalt not use the name of the Lord thy God in vain.”

POLL: Drag Performance Of “The Lord’s Prayer” : Art Or Blasphemy?

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – A viral video of drag queen Pura Luka Vega singing along to a remix of “Ama Namin,” otherwise known as The Lord’s Prayer, is receiving mixed reactions from netizens – Catholics and LGBTs alike.

The video, which was posted by Vega herself, shows the drag queen dressed up as the Black Nazarene while singing along to a remix of The Lord’s Prayer in a bar.

Immediately, many Filipinos condemned the performance, calling it blasphemy. Others who defended it said it was art.

This kind of controversy is anything but news. What comes to mind is the rock musical and film, “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

And who could forget the 2022 Philippine presidential campaign when supporters of Leni Robredo paraded a poster depicting her as Mary, the mother of Jesus. And oh yes, that Easter celebration that turned pinklawan!

As the leading satirical site in the Philippines and named to the top 50 in the world, The Adobo Chronicles is conducting a poll with this question:

Is the Vega performance blasphemy or art?
