Philippines’ Black Friday Movement Sold To China

983F5A6F-F867-4DD6-8BF4-B1D09F480665MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It’s Black Friday in the United States — the day after Thanksgiving when millions of American consumers troop to the malls and other business establishments to avail of a huge sale on goods and services.

In the Philippines, Black Friday is a political movement where public protests are staged to call attention to national issues ranging from press freedom to Martial Law to the burial of the late Ferdinand E. Marcos in the Libingan ng mga Bayani (National Heroes Cemetery.)

Alas, the Filipino Black Friday is no more. It has been sold to China.

This was confirmed by protest organizers who said that the supposed sale of the Philippines to China as part of the signed agreements between Rodrigo Duterte and his Chinese counterpart President Xi Jinping included their Black Friday Movement.

The Adobo Chronicles could not independently confirm the agreed-upon sale price for the movement. Was it at full price or a huge discount?

Anti-China Filipino Activists Want Chinatown Permanently Closed

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chonicles, Manila Bureau) – A few dozen Filipino acitivists are protesting the Manila visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping on the grounds that China is a threat to the Philippines’ sovereignty in the light of the South China Sea territorial conflict, as well as growing Chinese investments in the country.

The activists don’t want the Philippines to have anything to do with China and are demanding that everything that reminds the Filipinos of China and the Chinese be permanently erased from the country’s landscape.

What landmark bests represents Chinese influence in the Philippines than the oldest Chinatown in the world — Chinatown in Binondo, Manila.

The protestors want Manila’s Chinatown permanently closed and replaced by an SM Super Mega Mall Village that would put the Mall of Asia to shame.

Little do the protesters know that the owner of SM is Henry Sy. Filipino. Chinese.

Donald Trump Now Calls The Philippines ‘Inday-Pacific’

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – At the ongoing ASEAN Summit in Singapore, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence has again referred to the Asia-Pacific region as “Indo-Pacific.”

“Indo-Pacific” is being used by the Trump Administration to define America’s new geopolitical view of Asia. Trump started using the new reference to Asia since his tour to the region last year.

The use of the term was a departure from language employed by previous administrations, and has led to speculation that it could have to do with Washington softening the ground for a revival of the so-called Quadrilateral strategic alliance consisting of the US, Japan, Australia and India to counter China’s rise.

Now, in what  is being considered a public enodorsement of Sara Duterte-Carpio’s rumored and much-speculated eye on the Philippine Presidency in 2022, Donald Trump has recently been heard using the term “Inday-Pacific” to refer to the Philippines.

Carpio is the mayor of Davao City and is the daughter of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. She is more popularly known among Filipinos as “Inday Sara.”
