President Bongbong Marcos has decided that three heads are indeed better than one when it comes to governing the nation while he’s away on an official mission in the U.S.
Gone are the days of VP Sara Duterte’s solo caretaking, as now she shares the spotlight with Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella. It’s a subtle nod, perhaps, to the dwindling confidence in the VP’s singular ability and loyalty.
One can’t help but wonder how these three musketeers will make decisions. Do they resort to a sophisticated voting system, or is it just a good old-fashioned coin toss?
With such an array of brains at the helm, one can only hope they don’t end up in a perpetual stalemate, leaving the country’s fate hanging on the flip of a coin.
Senator Imee Marcos’ assertion that bravery is meaningless without bullets is a curious mix of warmongering and ignorance.
While she seems fixated on the idea of armed conflict, she conveniently overlooks the ongoing tensions in the South China Sea, where Chinese vessels have been using water cannons against Philippine fishermen without a single bullet being fired. Perhaps Senator Marcos has been too preoccupied with her own rhetoric to notice the blatant aggression happening in our waters.
Instead of advocating for more bullets, perhaps Senator Marcos should focus on practical solutions. After all, water cannons have been effective tools of coercion without the need for lethal force. Maybe she can divert her attention from imaginary battles and allocate resources to equip Philippine vessels with powerful water cannons to defend against such non-lethal but still concerning acts of aggression.
It’s time to prioritize pragmatism over misplaced bravado.
In the grand theater of Philippine politics, the latest act features former presidential spokesperson Sal Panelo requesting a written assurance from President Bongbong Marcos for Pastor Apollo Quiboloy’s safety if he surrenders.
Panelo pledges he and Duterte will accompany him, but the irony is thick enough to cut with a knife. It seems the same government that turned a blind eye to extrajudicial killings of alleged drug offenders now suddenly champions written guarantees of safety for the self-proclaimed appointed son of God.
One can’t help but wonder: where were these guarantees when thousands of ordinary citizens faced the brutal reality of the drug war?
Perhaps, in this bizarre twist of fate, irony reigns supreme, showcasing the absurdity of power dynamics in a nation where the lines between righteousness and political expediency blur all too often.
