WASHINGTON, D.C.(The Adobo Chronicles) – It’s Déjà vu! The man who challenged Barack Obama’s citizenship is now questioning whether Republican Senator Ted Cruz is qualified to run for president.

The junior senator from Texas announced today that he was seeking the Republican nomination for president in the 2016 elections — the first major candidate to do so.

Business mogul Donald Trump, who makes no secret about his intention to run for president in 2016, said today that Cruz, who was born in Canada, is not eligible to run for president because he wasn’t born in the United States.

“I don’t even need to see his birth certificate,” Trump said, ” since he has admitted that he was born in Canada.”

Responding to Trump’s pronouncement, Cruz countered by saying, “Mr. Trump must not know his geography.  Yes, I was born in Canada which is in North America.  Ergo, I am American and very well qualified to run for U.S. president.”

“On the other hand,” the Texas senator said, “I haven’t seen Mr. Trump’s birth certificate. He doesn’t look American to me. I think he’s been dyeing his weird hair blonde, and wearing colored contacts to look American.”

“Don’t show me your money; show me your birth certificate,” Cruz challenged Trump.

PHILIPPINES: TWO MAYORS END STANDOFF IN MAKATI CITY

CaptureMAKATI CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Will the real mayor of Makati City please step forward?

Well, there’s actually two mayors right now – Incumbent Mayor Junjun Binay and Vice Mayor Romulo Peña, each claiming to be the legitimate head of the Philippines’ richest city.

It all started when the Philippine Ombudsman issued an order suspending Binay for six months in connection with the alleged overpricing of Makati City Hall Building II.

Soon after the order was served on Binay, Vice Mayor Peña was sworn into office as the acting mayor.

Binay claimed that he was still in charge of the city despite the Ombudsman’s order suspending him for six months. He said that the Court of Appeals granted his request for a temporary restraining order which had effectively stayed his suspension.

Not so, claimed the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales and Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, noting that the TRO was moot and academic because Peña had been sworn in as acting mayor on March 16 hours before the TRO was issued.

Since the suspension order was issued, Binay has been camping out in his office at the Makati City Hall, backed by supporters who were fed take out fried chicken and spaghetti (presumably from Jollibee).  Peña, who claims he is the acting mayor since he took oath when the suspension order was served on Binay, has been holding office at the old City Hall building nearby.

Finally, both “mayors” announced they have come to an agreement to end the week-long standoff.

“We have decided that both of us can be mayor,” Binay said. “We have agreed to divide Makati City into two jurisdictions — east and west of the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA). EDSA is Metro Manila’s main thoroughfare that runs through many cities in the metropolis, including Makati.

I will be mayor of the East side and Peña will be mayor of the West side.”

All’s well that ends well.

MANNY PACQUIAO WILL RUN FOR PHILIPPINES PRESIDENT IN 2016, TIM TEBOW IS RUNNINGMATE

LOS ANGELES, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – U.S. mainstream media totally missed out on a big, breaking story when they reported that American football quarterback free agent Tim Tebow “paid a visit” to Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao during the latter’s sparring session.

Once all the photos were taken and the media reporters had left, The Adobo Chronicles sat down for a one-on-one interview with Pacquiao.

We didn’t ask him any questions about his upcoming fight with Floyd Mayweather (May 2, 2015, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.) Rather, we asked the Filipino congressman about his future political plans.

“I’m glad you asked that,” Pacquiao told us, “because today, I am officially announcing that I am running for president in the 2016 elections in the Philippines.”

“I can now also confirm that I have chosen my vice presidential runningmate — Tim Tebow.”

Tebow played for the Denver Broncos and New York Jets of the National Football League, and is known for openly proclaiming his Christian values.  He was born in the Philippines to missionary parents. He is 27 years old.

The Philippine Constitution sets the minimum age qualification for president and vice president at 40, but Pacquiao does not see it as a problem. “After my fight with Mayweather, I will go back to congress and seek to amend the constitution to reduce the minimum age qualification to 25 for both president and vice president,”  he said. Pacquiao himself would be underage at 36, unless the constitution is amended.

“As president and vice president, Tim and I will work to make the Philippines the number one country in the world in terms of boxers, football players and born-again Christians,” Pacquiao told us.

Like Tebow, Pacquiao is a devout Christian.
