MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – GMA News, the most-trusted news brand in the Philippines according to a Reuter’s digital survey, is reporting that the government is offering a monetary reward for the importation of two high-profile men on its “wanted” list.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) offered P2-million reward for any information that would lead to the arrest of former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director Gerald Bantag and another P1-million reward for the arrest of his deputy, Ricardo Zulueta.
Bantag and Zulueta are facing two separate cases of murder before the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court and the Las Piñas RTC for the death of Bilibid inmate Jun Villamor and broadcaster Percival Mabasa or Percy Lapid.
It wasn’t clear whether or not the recipients of the monetary reward will have to shoulder the Customs duties for the importation of Bantag and Zulueta.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Rappler, the online news blog owned by convicted criminal Maria Ressa keeps on reaping accolades. Let’s count the ways:
1. Rumor-monger: it has been a purveyor of disinformation to perpetuate its twisted narrative and bias.
2. It is the least-trusted news brand in the Philippines four years in a row in the annual Digital News Report by the University of Oxford’s Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism.
3. It boasts of criminal conviction on cyber libel for its CEO and a former staff person.
4. Its CEO has been accused of lying her way to the Nobel Peace Prize, depriving far more deserving freedom of speech fighters like WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
5. Now, it has added a new feather on its cap: that of hate monger with its Father’s Day greeting!
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Every once in a while, we get it wrong.
The Adobo Chronicles erroneously used the photo of TV actress and host Kim Chiu in a quote card on a recent statement from ex-Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo.
Our interns thought the quote sounded very much like some of the previous statements attributed to the actress, so they decided to use Chiu’s photo.
