Senator Risa Hontiveros Renames SOGIE Bill!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It’s been languishing in the Senate for some time now and the chances of its passing are still nil.

“It” is the SOGIE Bill – Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Equality, authored by Senator Risa Hontiveros.

In order to increase its chances of becoming law, Hontiveros announced she was renaming the bill SHOKIE – Stop Harassment of Kababayan in Intersex Engagement.

This new bill title, she says, is more inclusive and does not imply special rights and privileges for the LGBTQIA+ community.

“Intersex encompasses all genders, orientation and preferences and we are hopeful this will address all the concerns of my fellow lawmakers,” Hontiveros told The Adobo Chronicles.

POLL: Drag Performance Of “The Lord’s Prayer” : Art Or Blasphemy?

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – A viral video of drag queen Pura Luka Vega singing along to a remix of “Ama Namin,” otherwise known as The Lord’s Prayer, is receiving mixed reactions from netizens – Catholics and LGBTs alike.

The video, which was posted by Vega herself, shows the drag queen dressed up as the Black Nazarene while singing along to a remix of The Lord’s Prayer in a bar.

Immediately, many Filipinos condemned the performance, calling it blasphemy. Others who defended it said it was art.

This kind of controversy is anything but news. What comes to mind is the rock musical and film, “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

And who could forget the 2022 Philippine presidential campaign when supporters of Leni Robredo paraded a poster depicting her as Mary, the mother of Jesus. And oh yes, that Easter celebration that turned pinklawan!

As the leading satirical site in the Philippines and named to the top 50 in the world, The Adobo Chronicles is conducting a poll with this question:

Is the Vega performance blasphemy or art?

Senator Risa Hontiveros Rainbow-Tags Awra!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – There is a reason for the long acronym used to describe members of the queer community. LGBTQIA stands for “Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual.” (Biological) Woman is not part of the acronym for obvious reasons. But a man self-identifying himself as a woman has gained acceptance among many in the homosexual and heterosexual communities.

So for Senator Risa Hontiveros tagging Awra Briguela as a “woman” speaks of her lack of knowledge and expertise in authoring the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identify (SOGIE) Equality Bill in the Senate.

No public statement has ever been attributed to Awra self-identifying as a woman. Even his own father recognizes him as a “gay son.”

Even the popular TV host and actor Vice Ganda does not identify as a woman, but as a gay man.

It’s not all about semantics. It’s about sensitivity and full understanding of sexuality, sexual preference and sexual identity.

You’re welcome, Sen. Hontiveros!
