LENI ROBREDO WITHDRAWS CANDIDACY AS LIBERAL PARTY VP CANDIDATE!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – If there is a poster lady for the Aquino administration’s mantra of daang matuwid (straight path), it is none other than Congresswoman Leni Robredo, who is the Liberal Party’s vice presidential candidate.  She is law-abiding, lives a life of simplicity, and has no qualms about criticizing the adminsitration or her party for failed policies or programs, as well as missteps.

So it is not surprising that today, she withdrew her candidacy as LP presidential candidate Mar Roxas’ running mate.

The reason? Roxas just violated the law.

Rules of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) prohibit candidates from early campaigning.  For the 2016 presidential elections, the campaign period set by the elections body is February 9 to May 7.

Roxas’ campaign, however, has just released a music video featuring celebrities and sports personalities which is obviously a campaign material in violation of the law.

While Robredo participated and appeared in the video, she told The Adobo Chronicles that she had no idea that the campaign material would be released this early.  She thought it was recorded for release on or after February 9.

Well, the video has gone viral but has also become exhibit A, in an elections violation case that could be filed against Roxas and the Liberal Party.

Robredo wants no part of  the illegal activity, so she decideed to withdraw her VP candidacy.

Good for her.

DONALD TRUMP CALLS PHILIPPINE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE RODRIGO DUTERTE A COPYCAT

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles) – Since launching his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, Donald Trump has insulted Latinos, made  fun of the disabled, tweeted neo-Nazi propaganda, and advocated a Nazi-style registration system. Now, he’s advocating a policy that speaks of Genocide — ‘taking out families’ of terrorists.

Across the Pacific Ocean, another presidential candidate — in the Philippines — is running on a record and platform of authoritarianism, extra-judicial execution of criminals, taking the law into his own hands, and has no qualms about cursing Pope Francis. His name is Rodrigo Duterte, mayor of Davao, one of the largest Philippine cities.

Both candidates are extremely popular — based on polls — and have a good shot at becoming the chief executive of their respective countries.

The Adobo Chronicles caught up with Trump at Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas while he was sipping champagne with contestants in the Miss Universe Pageant to be held this month, and we asked him what he thinks of Duterte.

‘He’s  a copycat,’ Trump said, ‘why does he have to imitate my style, why can’t he be more original and be his own man?’

Reacting to Trump’s comments via phone, Duterte told us in Tagalog : ‘P.I., he is the one who is a copycat. He’s been in politics for just months, I’ve been around for many many years.’

Well that says it all: birds of the same feather don’t always want to flock together.

FORMER VP DICK CHENEY BUSTED FOR WAR CRIMES

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney was busted for his role in war crimes committed during the administration of his former boss, George W. Bush.

This is the first time that Cheney was made to answer for his crimes on U.S. soil.  He was busted at the U.S. Capitol. The war crimes include torture suffered by victims at the hands of soldiers and contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Ironically, Cheney’s busting was witnessed by no less than Bush himself.

In 2012, Bush, Cheney and other key members of their administration were found guilty of war crimes in a trial held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  They were tried in absentia.

Responding to questions from the media after Cheney was busted, Bush said he was relieved that his Vice President was just busted, and not hanged.
