Human Rights Commissioner Chito Gascon Wants To File Charges Against ‘Kidnapped’ Children

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Former Bayan Muna Representative Satur Ocampo, ACT Teachers Partylist France Castro, and 16 others were arrested in Talaingod, Daval del Norte for alleged human trafficking, kidnapping, and child abuse charges.

Ocampo’s group — members of the National Solidarity and Fact Finding Mission — was on board five vans  headed for an unknown destination when they were stopped on Wednesday by members of the Philippine National Police.  A random check revealed the presence of 14 minor children.

The children, along with teachers, were being “rescued “ from a Lumad school in Barangay Palma Gil, Talaingod, Davao Del Norte from alleged harassment Wednesday night.

Immediately after the group was released on bail Saturday, Chito Gascon of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) vowed to sue the 14 kids for violating the human rights of Ocampo and the others.

Gascon said that the children should have assured the police that they were not being kidnapped. “By remaining silent, the children caused the arrest of, and charges filed against Ocampo and company.

“I understand the children are all minors, but that is no excuse to trample on anyone’s human rights, including the right to be free from illegal arrest or to engage in the civic duty to fight any form of harassment,” Gascon told The Adobo Chronicles.

Asked why CHR was quiet about the prior alleged harassment of the children at the Lumad school, Gason said he wasn’t aware of it because it was not reported on Rappler.

Vice President Leni Robredo’s Statement On The Appointment Of Lucas Purugganan Bersamin As Supreme Court CJ

Bersamin

MANILA, Philippies (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Vice Presidential Assistant Georgina Hernandez is on leave of absence, and Leni Robredo can’t wait any longer to issue a statement on the appointment by President Duterte of Lucas Purugganan Bersamin as the new Chief Justice of the Philippine Supreme Court.

The Adobo Chronicles obtained an advanced copy of Robredo’s statement and part of it reads:

“Lubos na nakakabahala ang pagkapili ni Justice Bersamin bilang bagong Chief Justice ng ating Korte Suprema.

Hindi sinunod ni Pangulong Duterte ang kanyang pangako na isasaalang-alang niya ang seniority sa kanyang desisyon.

Sa pagkakaalam ko, hindi naman senior (Sr.) si Bersamin.  Di ko nga alam kung Junior (Jr.) siya.

Isa na namang pangako ito ni Duterte na napako.”

PNP Chief Albayade And DILG Secretary Año Will Play Cameo Roles In ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The long-running ABS-CBN teleserye “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” will continue running, thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the television network and the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Earlier, PNP issued a directive withdrawing support for the teleserye — from loaning patrol cars, paraphernalia and personnel; while DILG threatened to sue the production, both because of the negative portrayal of the police in many of the show’s episodes.

But all’s well that ends well.

As part of the MOU, PNP logistical support for the show will resume.

For ABS-CBN’s part of the agreement, it was revealed that PNP Chief Oscar Albayade and DILG Secretary Eduardo Año — former Army Chief — will play cameo roles in the show at least once a week.  They will portray themselves.

Because of the participation of Año and Albayade, the teleserye’s disclaimer will now read: “Ang mga pangalan, karakter, at mga insidente sa programang ito ay BAHAGYANG kathang-isip lamang…”
